How's everyone handling this social distancing? We're living through interesting times, so I figured a lighthearted thread would do some good. What's everyone doing to keep your head on straight? I'm on day 9 of self-quarantine, during which time my fever has been consistently high but otherwise I feel just fine, except for a mild cough. I've almost finished Better Call Saul on Netflix, and have been making some of my great grandmother's old family recipes. She lived through the Great Depression and I always loved how no-nonsense she was in the kitchen. I've also got a big sack of hominy/corn (you guys I watched a documentary on historical corn cultivars...) and have been having fun doing some exploration of Native American food, including little corn cakes taken from the writings of Ben Franklin. Tonight I have a hot date with Banjo-Kazooie on the N64, and an IPA that's been in my fridge for 6 months. I'm not usually a fan of hops, so if anyone knows the alchemy to turn that into a hefeweizen or cider, ping me. Here's some good stuff: The Metropolitan Opera is streaming freeThe Russian Opera alsoNetflix is doing a party thing

My first week of working from home is over. I only left the house for a daily walk/run/bike, and yesterday I went to the grocery store. I start to feel that I miss having contact to friends. So me and two friends just had a skype hangout for about three hours. I feel much more socialized now, it really helped. I have some stuff on my list that I want to get into within the next weeks, but it’s not really fun stuff. More like sort out closet, clean fridge, clean kitchen drawers. So basically everything that you don’t do on a regular basis, but now there’s the time to do that. I was actually hoping to find a good online browser game I could play with my friends while Skyping, but we didn’t really succeed. Most sites that come up when you google, they are trash. So if anyone has some suggestions, let me/us know. I’m sure I’m not the only one who would much appreciate this... Hang in there. Hope all this will be over soon.

Honestly I am perfectly fine. I still go to work (hospital), kinda on standby even on my off days for the storm to come. Was called in this week because coworkers had care issues for her kiddos. I am not exactly a social butterfly anyways. So I go to work, then go home. Went to the grocery store at midnight after my shift, not many people there, but still met one of my coworkers 😉. I sit in my back yard, I write and read, listen to music, sometimes dance around in the house or play with my pets. I am doing Duolingo learning Norwegian and I check my social media and watch TV. Nothing really changed for me. I am actually a little bit relieved to not have any socializing going on. Kid is at home from school, sleeps during the day, gaming at night 😀 miss my other kid who lives on the other side of the country. I completely understand why, but still am very bummed out that some big events I was looking forward to got cancelled and was excited for my kid's HS soccer season which is of course not happening now. They would have had a great season too. I also miss going to the gym...oh well Stay safe everyone, virtual hugs 💚

Im pretty anti social and get really bad anxiety so isolating is a normal experience for me. I live in a remote location, so no passing vehicles or people. I read a lot, delve far deeper into the internet than is healthy and walk my dogs.

I don't get out much either, so life hasn't changed too much for me, just a bit more nervous (I'm not nervous for the environment, social distancing seems to have pretty positive impacts on the planet). As a way to keep my head on straight, I've been making a lot of music recently. I find it a really good distraction. I've been really inspired by Four Tet. Otherwise I've been doing all the same stuff that I normally do, watching TV, video games, etc… One COVID-19 project I'm picking up is writing, although we'll see how that goes, my follow-through isn't that great when it comes to writing.

I'm still going to work, but only every other day. We rotate days because we can only have 10 people in the office at a time. But nobody that comes in is allowed past the lobby. Like Dani I go to work and come home. I watch TV, look at lots of social media, read, do extra housework since I have more time. Today we went grocery shopping and bought stuff for the whole week so we dont have to go back soon. In the evening I take a walk as I live in the country and dont meet up with anyone. I'm also handling dinner more since I'm home every other day, instead of Hubby doing it. My two youngest kids are home and doing classes online. My inlaws are elderly and have completely isolated in their house with their daughter getting their groceries. It's not bad, but I will be glad when everything gets back to normal.

The sad part is most of the comedy clubs that I perform at are now closed I can't get a gig anywhere because people are pussified from the media brainwashing them. It's not like I drew in hundreds of people, but all the clubs are fucking dry.

I work from home anyway, so nothing changed there. I just miss going out for dinner, or the movies or anything like that. I guess we're lucky to have it in this day and age where we can communicate via the internet and social media. If this happened before all that, I'd go mad most likely.

Everyone keeps saying there are people out there saying this isn't real but I'm always surprised when I actually encounter it. Aren't the clubs CLOSED?

I do understand that a 51 year old man died this week from the virus. Wonder if that family agrees with you? Furthermore, lots of people have been doing live concerts etc... last night my daughter and I watched a live stream of a famous singer on Instagram. why don’t you do that? I am really sorry, but your comedy act isn’t worth the life of another human being. Find another outlet for your need to express yourself, the rest of us want to keep our at risk loved ones.

It's not just their hospitals that are overwhelmed, by now their funeral homes and their crematorium are as well. The army has had to send in trucks to carry away the corpses and take them to crematoriums in other regions. Hundreds of people die there every day. There may be several reasons why the death rate in Italy is, as of yet, so much higher than it is elsewhere - but I've heard no good reasons why the situation wouldn't become similar to Northern Italy elsewhere, if the virus is left to spread unhindered. If you believe that the measures are exaggerated, I would ask you to consider this: What motivation would governments across Europe have to completely shut down large parts of their economies? All of this will have a heavy lasting impact on the economy. Why would any government in Europe voluntarily do that, if they thought it was optional? (I don't know about the situation in the US, but I believe here in Europe it looks more like many governments were slow to act, despite warnings from experts, because they were scared of unnecessarily harming the economy. And understandably so. It's not something you do lightly.) If you think that someone is trying to brainwash people or misrepresent information, I think it's important to always ask yourself: Why? What motivation would they have?

I'm not saying it's not real, I'm just saying it's being blown out of proportion.
I never said my Act is worth more than a person's life you're putting words in my mouth and being too dramatic. I'm just more or less frustrated that I'm forced to be cooped up.

I'm not saying it's not real, I'm just saying it's being blown out of proportion. 800 dead overnight in Italy ... blown out of proportion??? A virus none of us have immunity from, one which causes viral pneumonia, of which there is no cure, pneumonia kills full stop, no exaggeration, no blowing out of proportion. It's a FACT I'd rather self isolate than roll the dice on whether my immune system is strong enough to keep me alive. Doctors already having to decide who gets ICU and who doesn't, already in Italy that means nobody over 70 gets full ICU treatment. This is fucking real and fucking scary. I'm a tough guy but was moved to tears seeing the video of the army convoy moving bodies out of Bergamo. A fucking convoy!!! Think about that, think about what if that comes to your town,to your friends and family it can if people dont listen and isolate. I'll happily take being frustrated if that means I can avoid the virus or at least the peak of it and not forgetting not putting myself in a position where if I had it I'm then spreading it.

I'm just more or less frustrated that I'm forced to be cooped up. I get that you're frustrated and I can empathize with how you're probably hit harder by the measures than some others. That said, even if you think that the strict measures are out of proportion - prohibiting large and small events like comedy, concerts etc. is the first and easiest thing governments can do. Cancelling those has the smallest impact on most people's lives, while at the same time, leaving them open would provide an ideal place for the virus to spread (lots of people in close proximity for a reasonably long time). I get that that's harsh, if you happen to be someone who is impacted by it, but it absolutely makes sense. I also get that things may feel like they're out of proportion, when your area isn't yet affected heavily. But the point is to prevent a situation like in Northern Italy and to do that, you have to act when things still feel kind of harmless. Why don't you try to channel your creative energy into some alternatives, like making Youtube content, writing new material or using social media?

I'm just more or less frustrated that I'm forced to be cooped up. Do a little bit of research 4 weeks ago Italy had 3 cases and no deaths, now it has over 53,000 infected and 4835 dead. That number will continue to rise as Italy was too slow shutting things down. Australia is exactly 21 days behind Italy, today I thought we were going to get serious, but the prime minister backed down on a full lockdown, which in my opinion is a massive mistake. The US actually looks like the rises are plateuing, this may be temporary or it may be due to the lockdowns. Either way, be thankful
