Sy! Have you ever thought about doing a YouTube channel, putting your jokes and comedy on there? I don’t think this is the place to preach about being blown out of proportion. The world has gone to shit mate, honestly people are dying, and in some countries it hasn’t hit the peak. Write a book, last week I brought a laptop and I brought a device called eye tracker. It cost me £150 so I could work the laptop with my eye, and yesterday my carer set up all the shortcuts on it so I could do with a pen. 😞 does any body else use Pro writing aid? I am thinking of finishing my novel, it needs to be done it’s doing my head in.
Cheerio for now,
Pete 👍

I'm off work with a problem with the nerves in my neck, thoracic outlet syndrome, so was taking it easy anyway.
Just more of that really less the socialising. Just pottering around the house and sitting in the garden, thanks goodness the weather is nice.
In live on a lane popular with dog walkers so there is usually someone passing by to say hello to from a distance, makes me feel less isolated.
For any Covid doubters see my thread in General.

Yesterday my fever was gone all day, for the first time in 10 days. Today it's back. Bleh! My cough seems to have abated and I feel completely fine, especially compared to a week ago. Soooo self-quarantine day 11... sigh... My washer broke, too. Obviously I can't call a repairman or use facilities from a friend or laundromat, and I'm not about to drop a few hundies on a new machine without banging about inside this one first. So, yesterday ordered a $7 part off of Amazon. Sorry, fulfillment workers, just had to add another widget to your pick list. In the mean time... I'm doing bathtub laundry. Funnily enough, I recently watched a multi-part series about laundresses in colonial America. So I had some fun with it, especially since I was using homemade soap. The thing about not leaving your house for 11 days is that talking to yourself stops feeling weird, so I may or may not have been mumbling what felt like period-appropriate grumbles about "the missus and her delicates" in a very poor approximation of a Cornish accent. Speaking of colonial America, I've gotten really into this guy. He does historical cooking mostly, which is my jam. A few days ago, he gave a bit of historical perspective to today's pandemic situation and the uncertainty that so many of us are facing for the first time.

I live near a lake and today my roommate and I decided to take a trip around it, it takes about an hour so I had plenty of time to listen to podcasts and relax. One of those podcasts was Reply All, and the episode we listened to was titled “The Attic and Closet Show.” Basically Alex and PJ, the hosts of the show, took calls from anywhere in the world for around three days. I found it really touching to hear the voices of actual humans who are experiencing this pandemic at the same time. It's great to know a lot of us are very much in this together however complicated that might be for us individually. We all need to make sacrifices, which is hard, but as someone who's learned sacrifice the hard way... it's doable. You can be alone but not be lonely in this Internet era. I wanted to share this episode because I felt that it was perfect for this thread, and in a similar vein to what Myrrh shared, it's about being isolated together. gimletmedia.com/shows/reply-all/v4hm2z/159-the-attic-and-closet-show?utm_source=gimletPlayer&utm_medium=copyShare&utm_campaign=gimletPlayer

I missed Mama Hopper's Birthday today, and with it being Mother's Day too it's been a strange day not to be with her. I still video chatted with her ("Your walls still look too bare, get some posters but frame them so they look respectable") but was odd not being there to give her her gifts.
It feels odd almost having to take a step back socially. This weekend I've only been out once to buy eggs and pay a library fine and that's it. No meeting up with mates, no going to the pub, no going to the cinema, It's a huge change for everyone but we'll get through.
But the plus side is that I bought a big notepad and a fancy pen and have been writing my thoughts down. Not just to do with Covid, but in general. I wrote down a load of ideas for possible videos and filmed a few things but I doubt I'll upload them yet, keep dimissing what I have and thoughts are creeping in that I need better ideas than talking about the dangers that self-deprecation and the playing 'the hero' as a PWD can have on your mental health.
But the best thing to do is just keep going. Scale back, but keep going.

myrrh thanks for updating us! I was thinking about you. Glad to hear you're getting better. There are already so many other viruses going around, it's stressful to be sick with anything and not know what it is. Glad to hear also that you were able to fix your washer. This is something I've been concerned about too, as everything at our house seems to be falling apart and breaking.
zacc I love Reply All! It's one of my favorite podcasts. That episode is amazing, highly recommended for anyone who wants to hear how it's going in other parts of the world. Then if you're bored you can binge all their other episodes. The ones with Super Tech Support are the best, where they solve mysterious problems people have with their devices or accounts.

I also love the Yes Yes No segment where the hosts explain a memey tweet to their boss. It shows how deep the internet (aka reddit) can go.

I'm holed up in my room, busy with editing/compiling my thesis using the math typesetting language LaTeX and setting up a PowerPoint presentation for its, get this, online defense. At the same time, it's snowing outside. Attachment Deleted

Day 12, restless af. On the plus side, my kitchen has never been cleaner. And, I baked a yummy poppyseed sponge with raspberry and orange compote!

But I'm also super hungry, so that doesn't help. It makes me wish there was food skype, where you could virtually eat something (like that cake) and taste it even though it wouldn't be real.

Yo PD! Various medical centers are circulating directions on how to make cloth masks. Obviously, they're far from ideal, and no substitution to staying home. If anything, I think they're a good reminder to not touch your face. I have a lot of time on my hands (lol) so I thought I'd ask here. Does anyone have elastic laying around they'd like to donate to the cause? Any crafty devs got a bundle they bought for a costume years ago? I cut the elastic straps off an old undershirt and made two masks, but that's all I can do. (If only it was 2001, when spaghetti strap camis were all the rage!) Ordering elastic online has estimated delivery dates of mid-to-late April, which is the only reason I'm asking here. The ones I made today with tight-woven cotton, a pillowcase and a tshirt, were in accordance with recommendations on page 3 from this 2013 Cambridge study. Their conclusion was, basically, a homemade mask ain't gonna do much but it's better than nothing. A seamstress I am not, obviously, but I'm modestly competent with a sewing machine. Anyway, if anyone can help me get elastic, I'd be happy to make some masks for any of our guys, since you're almost all at elevated risk. Anyone hook me up?

I read on Facebook you can use ponytail holders instead of regular elastic. Just a thought.

I’ve seen where they put coffee filter folded in between layers of cloth also for tighter filter. Better than nothing
