We are in the golden age of everything. There are more books, movies, music, and video games now than there have ever been, with far more variety than we ever could have dreamed of. Back in the day you had to listen to the same handful of assholes on the radio every day… but now we have podcasts where we can listen to Xenu conspiracies as told by autism spectrum diaper babies, or our favorite celebrities, or whoever. What do you listen to?
My favorites for history are: The Dollop Behind the Bastards Humanity Archive Hardcore History
I have also dabbled a bit in true crime and really preferred: Crimetown In the Dark
Other than that most crime podcasts seem too sensationalistic and they kind of piss me off. I like more of an investigative journalist feel to it.
What do you like? I’ve realized I skew heavily towards listening to white dudes talk on podcast. I want to have more diversity from people of different backgrounds, but I always end up back on white dudes (and occasional white women) after I start branching out. I’m open to more suggestions, with the exception of people who are pro-fascism.

I was JUST thinking about starting a thread with this very topic lol, glad you did!
For whatever reason, I found it so hard to get into podcasts for years. I think it's because I absorb information through text a lot more than audio (e.g., I much prefer reading a transcript to listening to an interview). Though I finally got hooked in with comedy/rewatch podcasts
I'm obsessed with:
My Brother, My Brother, and Me - an absurd "advice" podcast with three brothers
Fake Doctors, Real Friends - Scrubs rewatch podcast with Zach Braff and Donald Faison. Also the producer Joelle (who is a queer, Black woman) has become one of the hosts of the show too and I absolutely love her. She and Donald Faison have also started a Star Wars podcast lol
AND Joelle just got a New Girl rewatch podcast going with Zooey Deschanel, Lamorne Morris, and Hannah Simone. Excited to check that one out
I'm hoping I can start branching out into other types of podcasts now... we'll see lol

I'd rather read books, and I frankly prefer listening to music rather than talking heads. I think when I get more time to relax, I may consider listening to some interesting podcasts.

Big podcast listener here! I skew towards psychology, culture, crime, science…I like to learn new things. Some favorites: Lexicon Valley* ologies with alie ward + Hidden Brain* No Stupid Questions + You’re Wrong About + Imaginary Worlds Why Won’t You Date Me? with Nicole Byer* Strong Songs Your Undivided Attention Bad People + Flash Forward + Food Heaven *+ My Dad Wrote a Porno + Phone a Friend with George Ezra and Ollie MN (on hiatus, hopefully temporarily) For your convenience, someonerandom*POC host + female host/cohost There are several queer voices represented as well Oh and if anyone else is a language nerd… I find the Coffee Break language series excellent for getting started with a new language, and I have other recommendations for more specific intermediate level podcasts.

I spend excessive amounts of time playing video games, so I try to listen to something educational while I do it so I don’t feel like I’m squandering my mind. Of course, I finished school in 2011 so my brain might be more hungry for nourishment than you people who are fucking around and getting doctorates and master’s degree 😂😂 I think audiobook is good for that too, something more elevated than a pulp thriller that can be read in an afternoon. Thanks for the recommendations you all!

Yes! I listen to podcasts constantly, while commuting, cooking, cleaning, whenever I'm doing something that doesn't require full attention. I also really enjoyed the first season of Crimetown, and Behind the Bastards is great, consistently informative and funny.
My tastes lean heavily toward NPR and looking over my feed I see it's pretty heavily white but not exclusively.
Here are some suggestions if you're looking for diverse voices: Reveal from The Center for Investigative Reporting Rough Translation Slow Burn It's Been A Minute with Sam Sanders Code Switch The Waves
Also there's a new mini series dropping this week called The Trojan Horse Affair about Muslims in the UK. I haven't listened yet but it sounds promising.
Here are my other favorites in no particular order: Radiolab Savage Lovecast We Hate Movies The Dream Endless Thread Every Little Thing Heavyweight Invisibilia Judge John Hodgman
The Last Archive Planet Money Reply All Science Vs Stuff You Missed in History Class You Must Remember This
You're Dead to Me
Limited series totally worth listening to: Bunga Bunga
Aack Cast by Jamie Loftus The Evening Rocket I, Podius Love Is a Crime Newton's Law Fake Heiress
My favorite comedy fiction podcasts, great if you need some escape: 14 Days with Felicity Bubble Dark Ages Gay Future Mission to Zyxx Victoriocity Wooden Overcoats
Finally, a devvy suggestion, the His & His podcast is a gay couple talking about their lives together. They mostly concentrate on gay issues but one of them is vision impaired and they talk about that in some episodes.

Behind the Bastards It Could Happen Here Radiolab Endless Honeymoon Dimension 20
And I'll occasionally listen to an episode of MBMBAM, WTF with Marc Maron, TrueAnon, and Some More News. I used to listen to Chapo quite a bit, but not as much anymore.

I listen to the Wood Enthusiasts podcast, which is a podcast for people who love wood and all things associated with wood. I thought you were trying to make some sort of strange joke, but luckily I didn’t spend too much time trying to figure it out. Apparently that really is a real podcast. Interesting.

Their parody news report of living in the Marvel Universe was hilarious. But I had to stop listening to Some More News because our current reality is just too bleak. Also I find their style kind of grating.
Of the former Cracked crew, my fave is Michael Swaim. He did an amazing podcast a few years ago where he read and discussed every book by Kurt Vonnegut. His current podcast is Small Beans, but it's an anthology so I don't listen to every episode. I like the ones where they talk in depth about films.

Is this true, I hear he’s been boofing ivermectin since it got a Nobel prize? Lol. Yes and no. I Dont listen to podcasts at all, I would need to play them on at least 1.5 speed. I have probably watched about 20 of Joe Rogans on YouTube, usually when someone sends me a link. He was fairly harmless with his flat earth, and UFO podcasts. He knows what he is doing getting controversial guests, I think he even knows when they are lying. He just doesn't care. His boofing of the Ivermectin is a joke. I am actually amazed how many people have been taken in by the Ivermectin Con. So many Liars and grifters and conmen. Pierre Kory and Tess Lawrie are the worst. As far as Robert Malone he is a lying egomaniac, who is butthurt that he isn't treated like a science rock star. He didn't invent MRNA vaccines. He did contribute a small but important part in 1989 with his paper on transferification of nano lipids. He is falling further and further down a rabbit hole of his own making, and almost every second thing out of his mouth is a blatant anti science lie. He tells a few truths as do all good liars. I think this is actually a great opportunity for Rogan to be transformed into a serious journalist, IF he he does as he promises and gives both side of an argument equal opportunity. I am not going to further comment on vaccines or Ivermectin, as it is like a religion for some people and we all remember the epic religion thread lol
