If I was to meet a DEV who has not had any experience with a PWD, I’d still be keen and not as cautious / worried as I was with my previous two long term non DEV relationships. Mainly because I don’t think a DEV would be too perturbed at my personal requirements. Am I right DEV’s? However, I’d never assume this.
This might sound negative to a DEV who hasn’t been with a PWD (sorry, I don’t mean to) but I’d love to meet a DEV who has had first-hand experience. I’d consider it a massive advantage, to be able to start a potential relationship without having to explain about my bladder / bowel management or ED.
I am pretty sure, that after vising the various threads on PD, that I’d feel extremely comfortable meeting a DEV and the more knowledge they processed the better! x

I know I’m going to sound extremely vain here but…
I quite like the way I look in the mirror, initially. I’ve always been quite fortunate to receive kind comments from people and I've never struggled to ‘pull a bird’. I’m normally very confident about how I look, though mainly my face.
However, when I look deeper into the heart of the mirror I tend to focus, rather negatively, on my skinny arm, legs, disfigured hands and the Quad belly GRRRR! I hate what I see then and would rather hide from what I see…a very disabled person.
After sinking a few alcoholic beverages, magic - I’m abled bodied again, very cocky. All my inhibitions disappear – can’t stay pissed all the time though, not a good idea x

How disgusting! Let's hope, for her sake, she never has a serious accident as she wouldn't cope with having any self disability!

Hi all, I’m a newbie to PD so I hope you don’t mind me butting in here. I find DEV’s fascinating! I’m randomly reading various threads to gain an understanding into why a DEV has specific interests in PWD’s (I’m starting to get there).
Anyway, I find this particular thread very interesting. I have had two long term relationships with non DEV’s. I used to be a very private person when it came to my disability. It was a case of ‘I knew everything and they knew nothing.’ – my fault!
It took me months to fully open up to my partners regarding the personal side of my disability (C6 Quad). I found it very emotionally difficult. I do not believe this would be the case with a DEV. I find it so advantageous that a DEV may have ‘upfront’ knowledge of my disability and I would welcome that. So far, of the DEV’s I have spoken with since I was introduced to PD, I have opened up so much which makes me want to embrace my disability, not hide from it.
Thank you all you wonderful DEV’s, you have liberated me, I have a lot more confidence in myself now! x

I looked at your profile name from a totally different angle, mainly due to the fact I wasn't wearing my glasses. I thought it was "beerbait" so I assumed you liked an alcoholic lunch!
I'm usually more observant but hey, I had a senile moment...

Hey, I know the feeling of dropping something like your phone can be damn frustrating. I've done that a couple of times and I've been unable to reach it until my PCA comes through to turn me. I've dropped the TV remote before and it's always when I was attempting to turn it off or change channels - end up being stuck with some crap program on all night GRRRRR!
We're all individuals and our bodies are different. If sleeping on your back all night works for you then fabulous = result, saves disruption of sleep in the middle of the night. I just can't sleep on my back - fancy swapping bodies? haha!
Hahaha I had that happen many times! Where the remote is on the floor and I cant reach it and the channel changed to some infomercial and volume is up a bit. Worse way to sleep! Funny thing is I was the type to sleep on my side before my injury. I hated sleeping on my back. Now, as long as I have a fan throwing air to my upper back, Im in heaven. I sleep like a baby. I dont sleep much though. Maybe a good 4 to 5 hours because Im restless. Yeah, whenever I've dropped the remote it's just before I switch the TV off, or change channels, or change the volume. Then you can look over the side of the bed and see it but unable to pick the damn thing up! Makes for a long night!
If it wasn't for my bony hips getting sore and shoulder aching I reckon I could sleep the clock round. Easily out sleep a baby!

I'm surprised more quads don't use the over-the-bed table...it's great for holding all the junk, no risk of dropping anything. Also, am I the only quad that takes muscle relaxants throughout the night? If I don't take, I get soooo spastic , hands clinch, jumpy, even heart beats weird. I'd be lost without my bed side table. I'm normally left with two beakers of water by my PCA and like to take regular sips of water for hydration - preventing bladder water infections. I take muscle relaxants at night too, if I didn't my spasms would be too great with my legs jumping around and off my knee and ankle pillows.
