Hi fellow authors or readers I'm thinking about using Kindle Vella for my story "Love in Troubled Times". It would enable readers to read a chapter at a time and not limit them to wait for me to publish the book or buy the book and then decide the story is not for them. I'm in the process of finishing up the story, it's pretty long so the Kindle Vella could be a timely deal, but also give my readers something to look forward to weekly. I tried to post the story here on our Devotee Fiction to get a feel for the audience but it wasn't very successful. It's probably just not "devoteeish" enough to be successful with the Devotee Fiction audience. For now, I posted the first chapter on "Wattpad" but not sure if it will catch there either. I'm not out to make the big bucks, because I know I won't, I just want to find a way to share the story with an audience who is looking for something like this. Anyways, I'm checking into Kindle Vella. Does anyone have any experience or feedback on it? Have you used it? What do you think? Thanks, Dani

I'm not entirely sure, but it seems that Kindle Vella is only availabe in the US. It specifially says US authors on the Amazon website, but I wouldn't know how this works for readers outside of the US. I had never heard of Kindle Vella before you mentioned it here, so I suppose it doesn't really work in Europe. This might limit your readership? At least that would be something to figure out and take into consideration.

Yes, lisa you're right, it's only for US authors...but I'm not sure if it's also only for US readers. I will find out for sure.

I’ve never used it. I seem to have sooo many apps for stuff. I have unlimited & audible. Is this another platform that you buy monthly or?

blueskye101 It's actually an episode-by-episode form to post stories through Kindle, and readers pay as they read the chapters; the first three chapters are free. Authors can post chapters up to 5000 words at a time and do weekly or daily episodes. Apparently, they say Kindle Vella attracts younger readers because the chapters are shorter. I'm trying to find a way to share the story with a varied audience. I don't make much with Kindle anyways. Doing our taxes, it actually kind of hurt I think because I have to claim self-employment if I make royalties and it didn't help with taxes. But I'm also a reader and I normally download the eBooks I want to read or actually still order paper copies too. I enjoy holding a book in my hands. I also use the library

Me too. I still love a real book and have them overflowing 😆. Interesting concept on the Vella. I’ll have to ck it out. Another place for stories. Yikes! Good luck if you go forward with that plan.

From what I have seen, Vella works best for short installments that are updated on a regular schedule over a long period of time. The most successful authors update daily (!). I suspect you need to strike a balance of installments that are satisfying in themselves and cliffhangers that make people want to pay to read more. Also you would have to take your story off the blog, as it can't be available anywhere else for free. Amazon created Vella to compete with Wattpad. It's not my style of writing--I like to be able to go back and revise previous chapters before publishing, and I plan my books as whole novels, not installments. I've noticed that a lot of romance readers like to read a novel in one sitting. But there's nothing wrong with publishing in installments. If you decide to try it, let us know how it goes.
