I was watching this old UK TV program called "Tree of the Year" and came across this particular one tree I feel worth sharing here. below narratives and photo are quoted from this link bodnantgarden.wordpress.com/tag/champion-trees/SEPTEMBER 23, 2016 Help crown Bodnant Garden’s old chestnut as Wales Tree of the Year Posted in Gardeners' Notes ...Her main stem was blown out at some point in the past by a lightening strike causing the trunk to split. Over time several of the larger branches have layered themselves upon the lawn, giving her ‘legs’. .. …Having lost her top many decades ago, she started to ‘walk’ northwards. Beaten back by strong winds and chainsaws, she is now intent on a south-westerly route… It looks like this Somehow I just really feel like sharing the story of this tree on this board. Of course I’ve thought about changing the “she/her” to “he/his” to better fit in the theme here. But you get the idea. It’s about the beauty of thriving from imperfections.

I recently finished reading The Hidden Life of Trees by Peter Wohlleben and it has given me a whole new appreciation of these beautiful lifeforms (although I have always loved nature). It's fascinating how this old Chestnut has managed to survive and adapt to such a brutal injury considering the risk of infection or infestation from being split in two like that. The right side of its trunk has lost all its bark and rotted at the top yet it keeps going...
I hope it won Tree of the Year and is still standing.

I hope it won Tree of the Year and is still standing. sadly it didn’t win. The winner was a giant oak which got saved by thousands petitioners from highway construction. But it surely still standing in its own way 😁
