Thinking about it I was wondering whether there were any real cases where someone sustained two spinal cord injuries independently of one another, for instance becoming a paraplegic after an accident and perhaps years later becoming a quadriplegic because of another accident.

I'm sure it statistically happened. Those people would be hella unlucky but I mean, people have been in two plane crashes before, so I would think that's not even too farfetched.

I actually know two people that this happened to. Well, one I know and one I know of because I had met him a couple of times. The guy was a para from being hit by a car on a bicycle, I believe. And he got hit again a few years later and broke a higher up to near quad level. He hated the world and I kind of don’t blame him. Although, to be hit by cars twice might’ve been his fault.
The other was a young woman that was in a car accident and broke both cervical vertebrae and then down somewhere in the lumbar or thoracic. She was a high para but got really ill and spasmed out of bed re-injuring the cervical vertebrae. They tried to surgically repair it but the damage was done.

I guess I can't complain about my situation when I hear that.

I know of one guy who was in the spinal unit the same time as me who had a second spinal cord injury, I didn’t get to know him very well but I knew of his situation, he was a Para of about 12 years and had a car clip him while out hand cycling with his mate. He’s now injured at quad level but I’m not exactly sure how high. Tough one to take for sure!

Just had two acquaintances that died around 40 by accidents (THiS YEAR!) you could also call them lucky for surviving twice!

Good evening, I haven’t been on here for awhile, I have got a few health issues at the moment, which will be a bit of luck will be sorted soon. Sometimes I feel like a 150 in dog years. Anyway, a few years ago I was in the spinal unit with a guy who had been a paraplegic for 10 years, had a car crash and became a tetraplegic! Honestly, I’ve never met anybody so unlucky.
