Greetings, everyone!
Where do I begin? Perhaps at the start, duh.
For years, I've been a silent observer here, a ghost wandering but never revealing myself. Yet, something inexplicable prompted me to finally come out of the shadows and claim my voice. It's funny how we often get in our own way, our fears cloaked as caution, hindering our progress towards a richer, more vibrant life.
So, here goes. I'm not just a guy with a flair for dramatic entrances (or in my case, rolling in). I'm also a film and TV aficionado, and I mean beyond the "I'll watch about anything as long as it's not a horror film" kind of way. My love for films isn't just a pastime; it's a torrid love affair. If my life were a movie, it'd be a cross between a heroic adventure and a romantic comedy where the hero is still waiting for his co-star. I'm an avid reader, too. There's a special kind of magic in diving into a book and then looking up, only to discover that what felt like moments were actually hours. It's like time travel, but without the pesky paradoxes or the fear of messing with the space-time continuum.
My entrepreneurial journey even kicked off with founding a small production company. It was the ideal blend of my advertising degree and burning passion for film and video production. Sure, we didn't conquer the world, but dammit we had the time of our lives creating content that, to this day, fills me with pride. After that chapter closed, I found myself drawn to the poker world, where I spent several years as an online professional player and streamer. Poker, in my eyes, is the ultimate level playing field. Ever since I first grasped the game, I've been enthralled by its intricate strategy, loving how it offers a battleground where physical abilities don't dictate your success.
Anyway, moving on. Did I mention I'm hilarious? Because, I am. Fair warning, my humor is dark and self-deprecating. It's the kind that can catch you off guard and make you wonder if you should laugh or call a therapist. Basically, it's like attending a roast where I'm both the guest of honor and the host. I'm an extra dry martini, but with a twist of lemon for that exciting zing.
Coming from the heartlands of rural Illinois in 1989, my life took a dramatic turn when, at just six months old, I was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). The doctors’ prognoses were somber, capping my journey at three years, but obviously, they hadn't met someone as stubborn as me. I had other plans; big ones.
The way I describe my disability is akin to being completely paralyzed from the neck down, yet I feel everything; every sensation, touch, discomfort, and sensory delight. But even in this stillness, there's a flicker of autonomy — a tiny yet defiant movement in my right thumb. This minuscule gesture is my wand, conjuring mobility and freedom through a micro-joystick on my power wheelchair.
I stand (or rather, sit) not as a figure marred by misfortune, but as a testament to love's boundless power. My journey has been cushioned by the unwavering love of my parents (who are my primary caregivers), friends who I would do anything for and who would do anything for me, and success as an entrepreneur (having just achieved my first exit from a startup I founded from scratch).
However, in the midst of this, there lingers an unfulfilled longing — romantic connection. My life has always lacked this. Honestly, I don't have the emotional energy to do a deep dive on this now, but I've poured my heart out in written words on my blog. Traditional avenues of finding love, like dating apps, aren't my cup of tea, especially in a rural area where potential connections are as scarce as an Infinity Stone.
So here I am, casting my net into the digital ocean of this community, not certain if I'll find my person, but filled with a quiet optimism for what might unfold. And who knows, maybe along the way, I'll find a woman who appreciates a good movie marathon, and a partner-in-crime who can match my sarcasm. That would be a plot twist for the ages.
