I've actually been meaning to ask the paras out there what tummy exercises you do because I think both my partner and I have lapsed into this wonderful comfort level so much so that it's becoming a contest who's got the bigger tummy Also, another thought...why don't they come up with a Biggest Loser Couples - Paradevo- style ? PS: we do try to watch what we eat and am proud to say we eat in and have more home-cooked meals than take-away and that these meals are made from scratch...step back Gordon Ramsey

I've actually been meaning to ask the paras out there what tummy exercises you do? ...lol, sucking in my gut is principal among them... ...but seriously, I'm pretty much screwed as far as I know, since my spine is solid and unmovable, so I can't do crunches and the likes - I used to before that time.

Are there any good healthy drinks that aren't pure chemical bullsh*t? Ice tea gives me wicked heart burn, that sooo sucks. I would recommend a nice low-calorie berry smoothie instead of the sugary ice tea and those potato chips Mr. MellowCanuck and MrNiceGuy: Just pour: 1 dl (=deciliter) frozen berries 1 dl skimmed milk 1 dl low fat yogurt 1 dl cold water/mineral water and a bit of sweetener ... in a blender and blend for a few minutes. Serve in a large glass with a straw and enjoy while chilled. Perfect for a hot spring or summer day

Hmm, I think that 30 milliliter would be equivalent to 1 fluid ounce. So if you use 3 fluid ounces and then a bit, you should be on the safe side.

Oh, yes, I know how to measure a decilitre, but I had just never seen it used before, so it was rather novel to me, actually, is what I meant.

I was hoping someone would have caught the sarcasm. It does sound like a good recipe, though. I've made something similar before minus the yogurt.

Losing weight is easy. I dropped 130 useless pounds after my injury... when I got divorced. ;D
Seriously, just watch your intake. I did lose a lot of weight (85 pounds) and have kept it off for over 15 years. Reduce your portion size, and bump the metabolism up with an aerobic type exercise. 20 minutes non-stop each day of arm aerobics (light weights with tons of reps) will have your metabolism screaming for the day. NOT heavy weights, but light weights. Heavy weights make muscle (anaerobic exercise) and don't burn fat. Areobic works best when you get the bigger muscle groups pumping (butt, etc) but that's usually not in the cards for us wheelers. Drop the weight slow. If you drop too much, too fast it's not only unhealthy but you'll probably gain it back eventually.
And that berry drink is screaming for vodka... lol.

As long as I'm here posting elsewhere, I might as well add my $.02.
Mrniceguy, everybody's different, and Lord knows I'm a freak of nature, but a couple years ago when I began worrying about a spare tire forming, I went zero carb and that helped tremendously, even without the exercise that should have accompanied it. It's tough when you're brought up on the basic meat, veggie and starch diet, but worth the sacrifice. As for myself, I went to one meal a day (down from 2 - never liked breakfast, or anything but maybe a tea/coffee/coke in the morning!) and that became basically a zero carb and low-fat (though I didn't buy anything "low-fat") diet of vegetables and (grilled - it's easier and leaner - thanks George Foreman! - lol) meat. Basically about a pound of vegetables steamed in the microwave (either frozen or fresh, just easy to prepare - i.e. no slicing and dicing) or a bag of pre-cut salad or fresh spinach (~9 0z.) with olive oil and vinegar dressing accompanied/followed by about the same amount of meat (it AIN'T a meal w/o the meat!). Fresh or canned fruits as a dessert or snack during the day. Some may argue about the meat, but basically a very healthy, high fiber, high vitamin (remember to vary your veggies), low fat and near zero carb diet. It lost me my spare tire/love handles w/o the effort of exercise...but it's really tough to give up the rice, potatoes, bread, etc. (Did I mention hot chili sauces make everything better?...lol).
Mellowcanuck, you gotta cut down/kick the soda addiction...I started a regimen after my injury of drinking cranberry juice for breakfast (and believe me, I neither do it for the flavor or the thirst!), but I force myself to down some (40 oz.) of diluted (I started at 50% diluted with water - something I've always done since a kid because of an acid stomach, but now I'm down to only diluting it ~1/3) 100% cranberry blend fruit juice (they mix it with apple and grape to mellow the cranberry bitterness) to hydrate (I hate drinking and I can't stand water) and keep the bladder clean and flowing. Lately I've also had to give up drinking ice tea because of the "sour stomach", so I've been drinking Arizona Ice Tea - the Green Tea with Honey and Ginseng isn't bad once you adjust to the difference in flavor. It's got great anti-oxidant health benefits, plus real honey and ginseng and although it's sweetened like everything else with high fructose corn syrup, it's VERY mellow in sweetness compared with other drinks (can't be overpowering that subtle green tea flavor with high doses of sugar!). I watch for sales on both the juice and tea and then buy every bottle I can find for ~$2.00-~$2.50 a bottle (64 oz. for the juice, a gallon for the tea - which comes in regular, decaf and diet - the regular is just fine by me!). And if you are plagued by heartburn normally, try some Zantac, especially if you can get it on a prescription plan cheap.
Good luck dudes, and remember, this shit may work for me, but I'm a freak of nature so the nutritionists out there will steer you to "healthier" regimens like small portions of fruit and nut snacks all day, 3 modest low-cal meals and water, water, water...lol.
