So I've been thinking about possibly updating the library and movies pages on my site. It's been a while and I'm sure there's a lot of new stuff we could put up there. If you want to post a review of book/movie, you can either write it on this thread (need full book/movie info though) or you can email it to me at paradevo at yahoo.com. For reference, here is the old books page: www.paradevo.net/books.htmlAnd here is the old movies page: www.paradevo.net/movies.htmlI hope at least Devogirl will be up for the task. That is, if she isn't too busy ogling Scott MacIntyre.

If you´re going to update the film index, then make sure to include the Spanish film "Carne Trémula" by Pedro Almodóvar. I think it´s called "Live Flesh" in English ("Kødet skælver" in Danish).

OK, FYI: I thought this was obvious, but I will actually need you to write the reviews yourself. I'm not looking for a list of movies for me to watch and review for the site.

OMG! I have a HUGE pile of books I read recently (ie, within the past year) that I want to review. They all feature male characters with a disability but most of them are not SCI. I posted some reviews in a thread a few months ago, if you don't mind a little repetition I can retrieve those and re-edit them for posting. Not this week, but hopefully I can get to it next week. There are more books to add to that as well.
Thanks Lee for offering to update this! Now that I think about it, it's probably better to put reviews on the website rather than in threads where they get lost quickly.
And FWIW I have NOT been watching American Idol, ha ha. My current obsession is teaching myself ASL by watching instructional videos on YouTube.

Instructional videos of ASL on YouTube? I've been looking for a way to get the rust off, myself; you wouldn't happen to have a link?

That would be great, Devogirl. I think it would be nice to make some updates, but I don't want to do it several times, so I want to get all the reviews at once. And FWIW I have NOT been watching American Idol, ha ha. My current obsession is teaching myself ASL by watching instructional videos on YouTube. Yes, but you ARE aware there's a blind contestant, right?

Sorry, Lee, I didn´t mean to say that you should write all of the reviews yourself. I just thought I´d mention this amazing film hoping that a member with English as his or her mother tongue had seen the film and would be inclined to write a review

Sorry if I sounded snippy. Sometimes it just gets to me when I beg for website content and nobody replies.

Unfortunately, not all of us are brimming with submissions of all aspects of content related to the site; for my part, I apologise.

Windrider, don't apologize! It's up to us devotees to provide this kind of content. Lee, I will get all the reviews to you in a pile but it may take another week or two. And yes, I know the American Idol dude is blind, but first I think that show is destroying music and I can't bear to watch it, and two, he's utterly boring, not a very good singer, and the songs he chooses are crap. So those of you wondering if a devotee will watch anything no matter how dreadful just to see a disabled guy, the answer is no. But I'm delighted that you thought of me, ha ha And finally, here are some sign language YouTube videos I have been enjoying lately: An ASL fingerspelling lesson: The same guy also has a good lesson on numbers. I haven't had much luck finding other ASL lessons that are really good, most of them are either too fast or don't cover basic conversation. However, I am a big fan of the CODA Brothers: www.youtube.com/user/OlsonterpCODA stands for Children of Deaf Adults, that is, hearing people who grew up with deaf parents, many of them speak ASL as a first language. The CODA Brothers work as ASL interpreters, and they dub their videos themselves, so you can understand it even if you don't know ASL. They are hilarious, I recommend all their videos. Keith Wann is also a CODA, very funny:

Just giving you permission to re-post it in the reviews area. Unless, of course, you think it's not devotee-oriented enough as a review. Which would be a valid concern.

Claire, somehow I spaced and didn't even see your comment. But actually, if you look at the movies page, the reviews are mainly one paragraph. Do you think you could condense it? Devogirl: I agree with you that the blind guy on Idol sucks as a singer and a performer. But he's not bad looking, especially after the stylists helped him out.

Windrider, why do you, as an American, consciously choose to spell things the British/Australian way?

Windrider, why do you, as an American, consciously choose to spell things the British/Australian way? I was exposed to both ways to spell English words at a young age, and I tend to interchange the spellings without conscious thought; hope I don't offend anyone...I figure if I get my point accross clearly enough, the spelling syntax doesn't really matter all too much.
