www.campaigntocureparalysis.orgI thought this was moderately neat. It's the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation's site where people living with SCI (and various interested onlookers) can see, geographically, the location of others. You can add yourself to the map. Apparently it's fairly new (or no one has been interested in it) as there are only 911 entries. Regardless, one orange balloon on the map now represents me. Unfortunately, among such categories as "I have or have had this condition," "I am a professional caregiver," and such; there is no "I am a devotee" selection. Clearly a massive oversight.

Interesting, and I'd be inclined to add myself if I didn't despise that whiny asshole for usurping the American Paralysis Association and incorporating it into the Christopher Reeve Foundation (at that time) by the time he left the hospital.
Not only was he a "false prophet" touting his cure and earning millions more than he was prior to his injury based on pity/inspiration (I mean, admittedly he was a well-schooled, silver spoon actor whose only claim to fame was Superman, and that franchise had left him behind by then). It would have been nice if mister narcissist had devoted some money and effort to community resources and inclusion instead of 100% to finding a cure for himself.
Call me an asshole (you won't be the first - or last) but I actually cheered the day he died.

I'm not sure about cheering the day he died, but for all his money, how come he couldn't get people to turn him on a regular enough basis to prevent him from getting the pressure sore that killed him? THAT has always baffled me. Do you know how poorly tended your decub has to be for it to make you septic?

I've heard that he ignored the advice of his doctors to stay off his decubs and out of the wheelchair. He didn't want to be out of commission for the time it would have taken him to heal properly.

Well, first, everyone's body and immune system react differently. Now add to that a narrow focused narcissist who couldn't resist flying to whatever crowd/camera that would stroke his ego and you have a recipe for a possible breakdown. And even a Stryker frame can't cure MRSA, so who knows where the fault lies.
