I live on the third floor of my small apartment complex and it seems like our elevator is always breaking. Today I was attempting some major laundry and while I was at the bottom floor with about a hundred pounds of laundry, I saw the elevator had the red Out of Order light. I almost cried.
I called my landlady and sort of lost it on the phone. I started yelling about how the elevator is ALWAYS broken and then I went on this rant about how, What if I was in a wheelchair?? What would I do??? She probably thought I was out of my mind.
Anyway, what DO you guys do when the elevator is out of order? I ended up giving myself a hernia pulling my laundry up the stairs.

My solution would be to haul it to my truck and keep it in there until the elevator was fixed. I'm about to sell my place and move to my first apartment and this has never even entered my mind lol. Damn I better hunt for the perfect place.

Being a wheeler, I always look for a place on the first floor. In case of fire, last place I want to be trapped is in an elevator.

Yeah, you for us wheelers, typically we have to consider that before we move into a place.
...though there are times in public, when an elevator is out of order, and you're kinda' stuck...personally, in my cases, I've just got creative, and hiked it down the stairs, if it looks comfortable enough. If I was on the twentieth floor of some skyscraper...well that's another story...at that point you yell and shout until the maintenance worker gets on the job, and on the job quickly.

However tempting an upstairs flat in an apartment block is,dont even think about it.....unless you have a long rope to hang out of the window & a spare wheelchair at the bottom.

I recently purchased a small condo on the first floor. However, I am required to use a elevator to get to my vehicle in the underground parking. This past winter every time the temp got below 20 degrees it would go down. I still have access to the ground floor, but it requires rolling around the building. Fortunately, there are two elevators. The second one always was functional. But, in case of a fire I am screwed, as I only have one avenue of egress. So, if I get caught in a fire I have a stair well I could use, but it would be ugly to get down. This is almost interesting, but maybe helpful.

In a case of a fire or something serious all I would need is a sturdy steel railing and a clear path...basically listen for the bang BANG bang BANG and "Get the fuck outta my way!!!" lol.

See, that's why at the Brotherhood of the Wheel militia training camps, we teach all wheelers line rappeling...in case of fire, or other times when a quick extraction is needed. noi1588: "YOU STUPID ****ING PIECE OF ****ING ****!!!" Windrider687: *Ropes out of the nearest window.* "Brother Tony, I need immediate evac., pronto!"

Me and elevators have had 'love/hate' relationship. Usually it's love, but i've had some elevator stories. I work on 2nd floor of building, so the E has broken many times with me upstairs....a few times i've had a team of guys carry my ass down (It's good to be King). I got stuck in faulty elevator at college...damn door wouldn't open!!! I went out with a girl that lived of 3rd floor, no E...no sex!!! lol There's gotta be somebody I can sue!! Makeout sessions in my van don't get it...I'VE BEEN DISCRIMINATED AGAINST!!!
Does the Brotherhood have a complaint department???

The Brotherhood 'delivers' complaints against faulty organizations and individuals...those people usually don't end up saying much after we 'deliver' such...'complaints'.

I stayed at a place for just under a year that had a POS elevator that trapped me many times. It always would let you inside the car fine, lol. But that's where the adventure began. It would stop about 3 feet higher than needed... or 3 feet lower. The doors would open, and you look out to see that once again you're fuked. ;D So, once I decided to stop paying my landlord's mortgage, I moved out. I found this really awesome fully accessible condo for sale. 3 bedroom converted to two (for new bathroom area), huge rooms, all hardwood flooring, covered parking, new everything. I call, make an appointment to see it, I show up to the viewing and the real estate agent says "The elevator entrance is over here." and I got right back into my van. No. Thank. You. Very. Much. ;D So I live on one floor, the ground floor. I'm not dealing with that crap ever again.
