Fortunately they have other reasons to continue to develop this tech, like military and for manufacturing. One of these days it will be quite practical, like in Dark Angel.

I'm totally down for a better alternative then my wheelchair but this is even worse. I want to chef for my own place one day with a kitchen set up for a wheelchair. I'll need agility and I get that with my chair...I can twist and turn my chair waaay faster then she could even stand up. Two or three generations.

I've seen pretty good standing wheelchairs. It's a regular wheelchair until you decide to swivel some cross members and it positions the user upright with support to keep him/her from falling out. It's a lot of extra weight, but a teacher I knew had one for writing on the board. Worked well for him.

author=wheelieincali board=general thread=2456 post=51612 time=1290763797]This thing is so unpractical, DD88 is right, she would be much better off using a wheelchair. I hate the tragedy and stigma associated with the wheelchair. It glares at me every day. The wheelchair is a great tool that people should embrace, not avoid at all costs. People struggle in their lives to take any option to avoid the chair, sometimes they debilitate themselves further. Society views the wheelchair as a sign of failure, giving up. They make power wheelchairs that can go up stairs or stand the user upright, using the same technology used in the Segway. When will the world stop viewing a happy successful person who happens to use a wheelchair as such an anomaly? [quoteFood for thought? Maybe in this world, devs would have a lot less guilt?[/quote] I'd gladly use a chair of wood if I could make that a reality, complete with termites too ouch!
