I watched it - just finished today. It was decent, a little slow in the middle with a lot of conversations that to me seemed somewhat, I don't know, trying too hard to be cool. I don't understand the classical music and dev movie connection either. I couldn't tell of he did a good job acting like a quad or not. It looked good to me but I'm sure the finer points were lost on me. I did enjoy the relationship issues they encountered related to his disability.

Chat was great! Much smaller turnout than last time, but the conversation was a bit easier to follow, also skype behaved itself for a change. To those new members who may have found the mob scene the previous month a bit overwhelming, please keep coming back, the dynamic is really different each month.
As for the film itself, I thought it was very well made, and the guy did a great job of pretending to be a quad. But maybe I just wasn't in a dev mood, I also found it a bit slow.
To recap some of our conversation, there is one part where Ben says "The girls who are into guys in wheelchairs are really really really weird." Annika, the love interest, gets freaked out and refuses to have sex with him. And there is some talk of suicide, although he doesn't go through with it. I'm watching all this thinking, this is the great devolicious film everyone was raving about? Granted, Ben is an appealing character, and there are lots of scenes of him doing stuff, transferring, etc. But just for once I'd like to see a movie about a quad where suicide is not part of the plot. And Annika, grr, I just wanted to smack her upside the head.
On the other hand, now I want to say "porno" all the time. Apparently this is real German slang?

Although I quite enjoyed the film I think it could have been so much better. For 95% of the film Ben is bitter, angry, cruel and suicidal, then has a near-death experience, (or a dream), in which he is refused entry into heaven, is told he needs to do something positive with his life and sees his dead girlfriend going into heaven. In the next scene, set six months later, he is a completely changed man: friendly, pleasant and positive. And then it ends! I think it would have been much more interesting to have seen the process of this change, which I assume came about partly because he decided to stop feeling guilty about his girlfriend's death and partly because his friendship with Christian made him stop being lonely.
