.usually they block sites with any sexual content or pornographic content which I would not think Paradevo falls under that category... Paradevo certainly does fall under that category. It's a web site about a particular sexual fetish. The site is sexual, the content is sexual, and the discussions revolve around a sexual topic. I'm curious why you think why Paradevo DOESN'T "fall under that category". They can probably read English. Probably.

Wow! My comment was firmly tongue in cheek. I had no idea that it really is different. The military laws are even diffrent, a service member can be arrested for adultry and go to jail. The laws are call The USCMJ (that stands for Uninted States Code of Military Justice) , they are very diffrent from civilan laws, there is even no double jepordy law which meens you can be tried for the same crime more than once. Actually it's UCMJ (Uniform Code of Military Justice). I'm not trying to be abrasive (aka a jerk) which I am seeing quite a lot of around here. Speaking of the devil... dog. I'm pretty sure it's a security issue with proboards. I know that PD is of a sexual nature but it's not a sexually explicit website. Do a quick google unsafe search for porn and you'll see the real explicit sites that will definitely all be blocked. There is no way that somebody has the job of picking through every site on the web to pick and choose which ones to block. There are policies in place, and mechanisms to enforce those policies. I'm guessing that each network (which the military has millions of(which the VA isn't even a part of)) has their own policies. For forums like this one, they probably do a quick scan to determine the security and decide whether or not it be blocked. I know proboards has had it's security issues but if I had to guess, I would say that Lee recently upgraded to a better version or the network administrators at the warrior games changed their policies on forums.

I had a very basic idea of the UCMJ from TV and movies (so yes a very basic idea) and that it was different and seperate from the normal Justice system, BUT I naively thought that the rights and freedoms outlined in your constitution would still apply to everyone.
Am I missing something? Do you guys sign away certain rights when you join up? Or as Wheeli says am I too just being an abrasive Jerk lol

You're probably mostly right wheelieincali. I really have no clue about what goes on behind closed doors with regards to the internet and military bases. I don't ever remember looking up porn while I was in the Marines to know what would have happened when I was stationed at 29 Palms. I guess I wouldn't have put it past the Army to have people monitoring what people are looking at on their base. I just figured that since it took a couple of days for this site to get blocked last year, that there must have been some way that new sites were flagged and checked for content. Which wouldn't have taken anyone very long to see that this site had something to do with gay males attracted to men in wheelchairs. Although I'm starting to doubt that conclusion, it still wouldn't surprise me if that was the case.
Wonk: yes some rights are taken away, but I really don't think it is anything very crazy. The president is our commander in chief. We can't bad mouth superiors, and the president is the top of the food chain in that manner, so yes you can get in trouble when you start undermining him, especially publicly like it was done on facebook with that example I shared earlier.
I didn't know there was no double jeopardy in the UCMJ, but I really doubt that gets abused.
I really can't think of any rights that are taken away that doesn't make sense. For anything that is taken away, I feel the military makes up for it in other ways. I know it is unlikely I would have lost my legs had I not joined the military, however I am certainly glad I had the military in my corner to take care of me after my injury. I have never had to pay a single medical bill. I am actually living a pretty awesome life I think. I was retired at the age of 26, finished up school, bought a house, I am on my favorite trip of the year right now. I am actually making money to play sports for three weeks, (over $1,000 worth of per diem). All my sports equipment has been paid for by either the VA or another organization. My wife and I are having a mortgage free, wheelchair accessible house built. I am sure I could go on listing item after item, but I think you get the point. For everything that was temporarily taken away, or permanently (my legs) they have given more than what I could have asked for in return.

Very true, I can't complain though I WISH I was service connected and do anyways. I crashed almost 2 years after I got out and though they denied my existence when my sister asked about rehab and let the state pick up the bill, after I stabilized and made my way into the VA I was welcomed by the special interest groups (PVA is the big one). You do most of your stuff through the PVA don't you marineamp? They hooked me up with everything I could squeeze out of my service and I don't have to pay any medical bills either. I get all of the equipment that I need and a little bit of other extra stuff that is just nice to have. As a non-service connected veteran I get one trip to the warrior games paid 100%. If I were to show interest after that, I think they would find ways to get later trips paid for too but I've never been much into sports. I'm saving that free trip (+1 assistant(probably a girl if I could find one that wanted to take the trip with me)) for a year when I'm not in school and when they are doing it somewhere fun. They host that event in some awesome places some years but dud places other years. Where is it this year?

I actually had to look up what PVA was, no I have never dealt with them for anything. I also think you're confusing the veteran wheelchair games with the warrior games. I think anyone that qualifies disability wise can to go the veteran games. The warrior games you have to try out for. The try-outs take place at Pendleton for 10 days. Then if you make it, then you're off to Colorado Springs for 14 days of training then 7 days of competition. The Semper Fi Fund picks up the tab for veterans on the Marine Corps side of things. This is only the third year of its existence, and has only taken place in one location.

Lee recently upgraded to a better version No, we have not upgraded anything, we're still using the free version of ProBoards which hasn't changed much over the years. It's more likely that the algorithm was changed. I agree, it's highly unlikely the ban list was put together by people, most likely they are using some program that designates certain sites as pornographic, or maybe having gay content. It might have been the policy change, or maybe they just switched vendors, or developed a new or upgraded program. Anyway censorship is always somewhat arbitrary and incomplete.

They ban porn sites on military bases? Lame. They'd rather you support the local economy by going to the strip club just outside the main gate.
