What car, truck, van, or vehicle do you drive and which modifications, if any, have been performed on your vehicle? I have an '03 Silverado that has been lowered 4 inches in the front and 6 inches in the back. Other modifications include Monarch hand controls and a removable spinner knob. What do you drive?

I'm curious -- why has it been lowered different ways?
Do you put your chair on the seat next to you? What happens if someone's riding?
I'm writing stuff, so I am hoping to learn more. Nothing worse than a guy character driving the wrong car, amirite ladies?

Jane, most of the guys I've dated have stored their chair in the passenger seat, but moved it to the back seat (in pieces) when I'm riding with them. None of the paras had modifications to their cars or trucks.

The back of my truck was lowered more so both the front and back of the truck can be even. And I had my truck lowered because I think lowered trucks are cool. As soon as I figure out how to post pictures, I'll post pictures of my truck.

I drive a 2009 Dodge Megacab 4x4. It's lifted, with big tires, but I have a running board that lowers when either of the doors on both sides open. I, too, have a spinner knob...but it is designed for a terminal device. I have an accelerator extender that allows me to use my left foot. Of course I had to install a touch-screen stereo too.

So you have enough strength in that foot to work the pedal, then?

Ruth is correct.
My fist car post my accident was a 1986 Monty Carlo. I had hand controls installed and really that’s the only modification. I drove a Mercury cougar after that same Mod’s. After them, I went with the Mini vans, lowered floors and six way seats. I choose to leave my chair behind the driver seat, I could remove the seat and drive from my wheelchair. My reason being, I work all day, I am in my chair, and it’s nice to change, even though I’m still sitting. Oh the models: 1996 Chrysler grand caravan, the current is a 2005 Dodge grand caravan SXT. I do hope they start building more fuel-efficient models; I am in the market to buy another soon. Hope this helps

janewheeler, I transfer into my truck. Then I disassemble my wheelchair and I place my wheels, cushion, and wheelchair frame behind the passenger seat. When I have too many passengers riding with me. One of my passengers either places my into my truck's bed or I disassemble my wheelchair and one of my passengers places all of the pieces of my wheelchair into my truck's bed. I hope my answer helps you!

So you have enough strength in that foot to work the pedal, then? Yes Jane, I can't feel my feet(other than a minor twitch) but can use my legs enuff to get the job done.

looknohands, you drive a lifted truck? Must be nice! Thx NerdB...I love your truck too...I'll try to find or take a pic when I get back from Mexico. Raised or lowered...I'm just happy to be driving period...went a few years taking the bus. I love any independence that I can get!

Thanks for your props looknohands. It takes me about a couple of minutes for my transfer and wheelchair disassembly. Same can be said about many other things I do unassisted. It may be time consuming but my independence is well worth it! You said it best: "I love any independence I can get!"

Looks like you spent most of your money on your truck and didn't have anything left over for a proper wheelchair.
Also if I was a detective and really cared to investigate more about you I'd just use the license plate number in the reflection of your tailgate.

This is prolly sooooo not an appropriate question, and I don't mean to be rude, but can anyone please explain why lowered trucks are preferred? I know a lot of the American style trucks (we call them 4 wheel drives, or 4WDs) aren't really comparable to something like a range or land rover (which we drive, and is what I like to call an 'abuse vehicle'), or the total workhorse that is the Toyota Landcruiser...But I just don't get it...if you even take a speed hump wrong in some vehicles you bottom out. How is lowered ever practical? (Let it be known that we also have a totally unmodded, except for some decent speakers, station wagon, similar to ampwheeler, but bigger ...I am obsessed with practical cars, so perhaps the lowered phenomena is totally lost on me!)
