Hello everyone.
I am a physical therapist from the west coast area of the United States. I was born without my right hand, am well-educated, nerdy, and moderately attractive. I have no serious intentions of meeting anyone in person at this point, but I am intrigued by female devotees and would like to chat with some.
There seem to be people in this community who are open-minded and have respectful attitudes about disability. I am interested in chatting with people who are respectful and at least a little bit sane. Eccentric is cool, psychotic is not. Distance does not matter.

Ooh a PT! I'll hopefully be a PT in a couple of years. Welcome to the board. Awesome! Any idea what settings you might want to work in? Woo! Go PT!

In a perfect little world I would really like to work with the military. That's great. I've considered that too, especially with all of the unfortunate wartime amputations that have been occuring. I think I could make a difference there, since I've personally been through the experience of limb loss. It would be awesome to support our veterans.

Welcome! I've been thinking about studying OT... But I have yet to decide much of anything so... I guess I'll just have to see what entices me the most. I'm not the most sane of the devs but I guess you'll just have to stick around long enough to find out who's the good crazy and the bad! (though I can't think of any bad crazies here, because we're all awesome) hehe. Have fun~

Hi and welcome RueTheDay.
I am wondering how you are working as a physical therapist without the use of your right hand? Can you tell us something about that?

I'm always happy to see more amputees here to round the list of disabilities. Welcome!

I mean, PT is obviously superior, but OT is kind of alright too, I guess.

Hi and welcome RueTheDay. I am wondering how you are working as a physical therapist without the use of your right hand? Can you tell us something about that? Hi DeeDee. I'll try to avoid giving a really long answer to that. To help keep things shorter, I'll make a list: 1. I have spent a large portion of my life doing physical work, and have kept my body in good shape, which helps. 2. I make full use of my right arm as a stabilizer during lifting and "two-handed" activies. It's actually quite helpful. 3. I've pretty much mastered the use of compensatory movement techniques. When you have a disability long enough, you figure these things out. 4. Transfers are tough, but I do fine with them. Lifting another person is the most difficult kind of lift you can do. You have to be very careful. It took a lot of practice, but I'm able to do it safely. 5. The loss of my right arm is actually helpful sometimes in therapy. My patients really feel like I understand what they're going through. It also helps me think of creative ways to adapt. I have been adapting all my life, and now I can use that well-practiced skill to help others.
