I think now that I've hit 40 I'm looking for a change in my life. I am to dependent on my parents, I know they love me but I feel that I want more now, I want to experience more life?. All my mates are married with children, I just feel slumped, how do I get a lift can any one make any suggestions. (Also I'm going to stop sticking info up on here focussing on my medical needs, sod it, I feel like Boots the chemist). My level is C4/5, I'm more stronger on my right, good for hugs, got a good reach there girls..lol My sore is managed now, my beard is scruffy but I look like a rough neck, my chair is charged, glass is half full...now what can I do...?? 40 and still living with your parents and you're just now getting the itch to move out? Get out of there ASAP. Don't find excuses, find solutions.

Hi Pete While MarineAmp's heart is in the right place, I am not so sure he is correct. In a perfect world moving out would be great, or would it? It's a lot tougher on a quad, than on a para like me or an amp, but if that's what you want then work towards it.
However....... my advice, (ooooh I love when it's solicited) You need to get out and about and meet people. Yes easier said than done, so a more specific plan is:
Enrol in a course in your local uni, do it part time or even one unit a semester, Uni's are ususally very flexible in this regard for anyone with a serious disability. Do it on campus, it will be a big effort on your part, but worth it I think. You could always do a course you are interested in, BUT what you need is a "Target rich environment" Nursing is always a sure fire option, although probably a little unfair on all those poor unsuspecting young nymphettes with all their florence nightingale tendencies. It would be like shooting fish in a barrell. Probably some closet devs as well.
Early childhood also works well, a mate did it and there were 115 girls to 2 guys.
You want to try and organise your lecture and tutorial on the same day. again the uni will usually bend over backward to accomodate your need. Your need in this case is so you can work your mojo. Try to get a 1 or 2 hour break between them, it will keep your day short enough, while giving your brain a rest, but more importantly time to go have a coffee and show off your wit and charm to the potential new girlfriends.
I will post more sure fire tacticts for picking up at uni in a later post.... this may just become a saga of "bass player jokes" proportions.
Good luck

No, my dad lives with me. You see when I broke my neck I was in the army, I was 18 at the time, back then there was no counselling, I just got my red book then off. I had to make a choice, get put in a home or let my parents do my care. I went to live first in chocolate country, Bournville, right by cadburys. About 2 years later I got afew quid in interim payments and brought my bungalow where I live now. My dad has cared for me for 22 years, it's his home here but I'm itching to find someone now, jump in footplates first...i think ..lol, spending all those years in bed knocked something out of me, got to find my mojo again. My mom has her own place, so my dad will be ok, it's tough being dependant on people, like Alexa said who knows what the future may bring, roll on Christmas I say. Stock up on gift vouchers because they say, "what can I buy him"...football boots and a skateboard.. I say...you watch I'll get them one year,

It's strange it's December 2nd I'm sat in my living room, the tree is up, the house has more lights on it than the space shuttle and I'm thinking will I ever get any independence. With my dad living here to, my nieces and nephews are here most days, (the grand kids). My home is filled with child tractors, bikes, Barbie dolls, go-carts and this Christmas my brother in law has brought his son Harry, (a battery operated Ferrari). So guess where that's stopping, yep uncle pete's got a path up his garden for his wheelchair...lol Oh not forgetting the snooker table, now I love kids I really do, but do you think a potential partner would enjoy all this.?, I've come to the conclusion my home is twinned with toys r us...lol..ahh roll on Christmas..
