I saw this page once thanks to a post on Devoteen... I gotta say it's really really sad and unfair for the rest of us people who aren't stalkers and creepy and that we actually try to be good people...

It's ok, most people with enough brains should be able to recognize whether a person in genuine or not. I recognized some of those profiles and never once was fooled. If they aren't up for caming then odds are that they're not real. my profile doesn't reveal where I live either. But it is shocking how many of my friends don't use that desecration.

See Assy, many people don't realize that there even are fakes out there. Once you know what to look for its relatively easy to spot. I also have made the webcam rule and think its really the best option. The whole MTV show Catfish is based around people being fooled by fakes on the internet - this is not just a disability issue.

There was a lot to the web page, I felt it actually gave devs a fair shake. It was just ripping on the people who made fake facebook profiles and went around lying about who they were and what their intentions were. Paradevo's own Ruth Madison had some of her work cited on the page defending good devs and bashing bad devs. It had a good portion talking about consent that I thought was well said.

I also didn't find the site particularly offensive. It addresses the very pervasive problem of fake profiles. It happens in all areas and within all groups. It's called Social Engineering and can be the precursor to criminal behavior. For those groups being specifically targeted by Social Engineering attacks, I agree to encourage group members to rather err on the side of caution. Language is often not very precise and does not always allow for a clean definition and distinction. Even within our own group we have repeatedly discussed the term devotee and have tried to think up a better and less loaded word to distinguish ourselves from those who disregard people's privacy and dignity, only to come up blank.
So since I am not into trying to befriend people by deception and am all for raising awareness about inappropriate behavior online and IRL I have no issues with this page.
