As you may have heard on the news Oscar Pistorius aka Bladerunne's girlfriend was shot to death in his home on thursday night.
He is currently being questioned by the police. Some are stating it was an accident and other news are saying it wasnt. Either way it is very tragic that a young woman has been killed.
What really makes me sick is that while media has been somewhat respectful, I hear people saying its because he was disabled, or that she should have known better than getting involved with a disabled man! I just want to slap people sometimes and Im so glad I have a different perspective.

Our news is going the other way and offering up excuses before the facts have come to light. I wouldn't be surprised if the BBC don't award him a sainthood by the end of the day. Very much from his point of view and the murdered girl is very much an after thought. It all seems so strange to me. His house and gated community looks more secure than our soldier barracks and yet he felt the need to sleep with a gun. Why go for a head shot straight off the bat? Why shoot twice? Was he in bed, it would have taken a while to get his legs on and investigate an intruder. What are the details about the other police call outs? Was his sour grapes at loosing that olympic's race an insight into the real Oscar. I just don't know but it is such a shock. I had thought he was a really sweet guy, good hearted, motivated and if it was a case of thinking she was a burglar then he is going to have a tough time living with what he has done. His career is over, he wont (shouldn't) be allowed entry to other countries with a criminal record so cannot compete anywhere, that is if he isn't behind bars. So many many questions.....

As you may imagine, this is all over the news here in South Africa. Speculation is running rife. Nobody knows what really happened and I sincerely hope that the facts are collected without prejudice.
All I can say is that all the people I have come across throughout the day are stunned and can't believe that there would be any intent on Oscar's part. Guns and their use are very much ingrained in South African society and nobody thinks anything of having firearms for personal protection.
Gun laws have become much more stringent, but you still see pretty much all public buildings and restaurants/clubs having a "no guns" sign at the entrance meaning that you have to check your gun at the entrance.
Some of the things that were on the news here that might not have made it abroad was that apparently the police was called by the neighbors, not by Oscar and secondly that apparently the neighbors overheard an altercation before the shooting. If that turns out to be true then it looks really bad ...

I am in shock! Terrible!... Though I am "kinda" fan of his athletic career I would love to know what has happened because... 4 shots... FOUR... that's not just an accident. I would really love to know the true (like everybody else). Terrible!

I've just saw an interview of a police officer who said that this was not the first incident in his house. It was said that there was domestc violence before! It's awful!

For those who know me know me, know that I kind of despise Oscar. I always wanted to see him go down, but not like this, certainly not at the cost of another human's life. I have to say I tried to ignore all his headlines, but I'll be following this one closely.
On a side note I've been looking through the comments to see if there was any disability bashing going on. I didn't find any, but did find a couple funny comments...Too soon?? I guess we'll find out.
-"Time to ban people without legs!" -"When this case comes to trial, Pistorius won't have a leg to stand on"

aperently he has a prev. conviction for assaulting a woman at a club? >. < No, he doesn't have any convictions. The case of assault was dismissed as frivolous when it turned out that the gist of the incident was that Oscar slammed a door after the woman who alleged he had assaulted her. He has made the news a few times for aggressive behavior in public, the most recent one was after he returned from London and got into it with a guy at a club. Apparently Oscar's g/f had cheated on Oscar with said guy while Oscar was in London. The guy's friend interfered and Oscar threatened the friend. The friend filed a charge of defamation against Pistorius, Pistorius counterfiled a charge of intimidation, but that's as far as it got.

The girl over which the fight erupted was unnamed, but according to the tabloids the girlfriend at the time (in September 2012) was Samantha Taylor and the first time Reeva Steenkamp appeared publicly at Oscar's side was early November. So anything is possible. Addition: I just saw a statement by the friend involved in the altercation confirming that the fight was about Samantha Taylor and not Reeva Steenkamp.

Let me just say a few things...1st, people have tempers. Sometimes people get out of control ANGRY...the chemistry between two ppl can be explosive...now, if you add guns in the mix, you have a deadly recipe!! I've seen it all my life!!! I haven't heard any 'disabled-bashing'...in fact, quite opposite. He's 'God-like' over here, which i have a hard time with...but I bet much of the blaming on disability goes on behind closed doors. Yesterday, some newscasters were pinning it on 'celebrity-ism'....stress of being a star!!! I have to laugh at that...look, ppl get pissed off...jealous...mad as hell, and if u have guns around, it can get deadly - disable or not!!

She should have known better than to get involved with an over-inflated celebrity athlete with a bad temper and a penchant for guns. I certainly felt like Lance Armstrong suckered me. I can't imagine how the South African's are feeling about their "inspiration" right at this moment.
