Yoga for wheelers - Any experience with it?lately ive been growing really interested in trying yoga. I go to the gym a few times a week and its all well and good, but i really want something that focuses on balance and core stability. Does anyone have experience or advice about this?

Oh man, best idea ever! I literally have no actual advice, and only do a tiny bit of yoga, but it's really good for general back 'health', as well as the other strength stuff, depending on what you do. I'm sure there would be plenty of teachers who would be keen.
Hope it works out!

I think there is a para dude who posted a video about how he does yoga on youtube but don't remember how to find the video. I'm sure others here would know how to find it

This is a really good idea, if only more people were doing it. ;'( Before I got my new insert, I had shoulder problems so my DR. referred me some PT, it only lasted 2 months then she had to go. It's really quite ridiculous, even more ridiculous was the time before that. The therapist came for 15mins, showed my PSW some stretches and left. <facepalm> Maybe i'm selfish but, if I'm gonna get some PT, I want a pro that comes in everyday for that reason only. That way it gets done consistently and properly.... Is that to much to ask?

I have several clients where I work who have expressed interest in wheelchair/adapted yoga (traumatic brain injury population). I think there are many resources out there and I think you can adapt almost any position. Matt Sanford would be my go to person. but this guy is very informative as well.

Yoga is awesome for core strength and flexibility - but be REALLY careful if you have any plates/rods/screws in your back! I have some back issues and my PT recommended yoga - but only certain positions! Some positions can cause more harm than good. I'd definitely do some research before diving it. That being said, it has helped me enormously!! P.S. Check out http:/www.doyogawithme.com/ - they have some really nice videos and it's generally well organized.

Another option if you have some issues with yoga might be Qi Gong. Qi Gong is a Chinese meditation which involves movements to bring into cultivation body and mind. It can be very beneficial for disabled as well as non disabled.
