I was thinking about this the other day... I don't think JKR is a full-on dev, but both her big series have characters who are amps. Maybe a dash of dev? Mad Eye Moody in Harry Potter and then the dude in Cuckoo's Calling (plus a dev storyline, right). I haven't read Cuckoos Calling, but an odd similarity. Probably a conversation for a different thread, but wanted to comment while I was thinking of it! Considering that in the 3rd book (Career of Evil) of her Strike series she paints devs somewhere between gross and pitiful... no, I doubt she is one. She definitely did a bit of research and came to the same conclusion as most people when they just google the word “devotee” Boo! That’s a shame to hear . What happens exactly?

I might have written about it on the new books thread, but in a few words (SPOILER) the main character is a one legged detective who has to investigate the death of a girl that comes out was a BIID sufferer and was led to believe he found a way to remove his leg safely, he’s obviously shocked and offended at this allegation. BIID characters are depicted (briefly) as either pathetic or just plain unbearable assholes, devotees are mentioned by another character who is reading on a devotee forum and is disgusted but she thinks that a)they must be all men and b)they are probably harmless and the worst they will do is wanking in front of a screen. There is no mention of this storyline in the miniseries, at least. Stil a great book, just only for thick skinned devs

Yikes. I guess it would be too much to hope for that they wouldn’t be judgmental...

I do think that male dev's get much more of a bad rep than female dev's do, which is kinda unfair if you ask me. Men come off looking predatory for some reason. I'm sure some can be, but since guys are primarily visual anyway, them whacking off in front of a screen is fairly normal regardless of WHAT they're looking at.

Oh, I thought this movie Perfect World seems familiar. It's based on a manga of the same name. You can read the whole thing online while you're waiting for the movie: mangarock.com/manga/mrs-serie-100057362

Hi everyone I accidentally found a telenovela on YouTube called La Que no podia Amar ok it is in Spanish no subtitles and the hero is in a wheelchair for those who have ever watch telenovelas you know how those are misunderstanding after misunderstanding to make it longer. I thought it was nice, I skipped the useless misunderstanding and just watched for the hero some really devy things in there. I am binge watching it right now when I should actually be in my induction management class right now. Oh well will catch up.

Anyone watch Fear the Walking Dead? Looks like they have a para character who is played by an actual PWD!
Daryl Mitchell is the actor and his character is Wendell. I don't watch the show but saw him in the background of a photo because I do follow The Walking Dead.
Looks like he joined the series in season 4. Anyone watch with insight? I'm definitely interested to see how a para survives zombies and hope that he is a badass character, not just a tropey-burden or in need of a nurse.

Hi all hope everyone is well.
Um has anyone seen the new movie about the quad ? You won't get fare on foot ? It's an ok movie but it didn't have dev moments for me. I have no idea why though?

Hi all hope everyone is well. Um has anyone seen the new movie about the quad ? You won't get fare on foot ? It's an ok movie but it didn't have dev moments for me. I have no idea why though? I haven't seen it yet. But, the trailer did nothing for me, dev-wise. I love his comics and I have all of his books. I think he was a fascinating guy. But as interested as I was in his work and his personality I never had a real devvy feeling toward him. I do look forward to seeing the movie because the book had some hilarious moments as well as some absolute heartbreak, but I don't anticipate any dev feelings from it. **great to see you, btw**

I have seen it and it didn't do anything dev-wise for me either. I found the film oddly fragmented and, despite having read the book (which I loved), could not really immerse into the story. I also could not really handle Joaquin Phoenix with this weird wig and the glasses....

This looks like it could be good. Even if it turns out not to be super devvy, I really like Kevin Hart.
