Thanks for sharing that article. I think that it's a great idea to give able-bodied people perspective. I follow a guy on twitter who does accessibility reviews, and it never ceases to amaze me the stuff he runs into.

Yahhh, I really LIKE this idea...not to make ppl feel empathy so much, and they will never GET what a quad my level has to do to function, but I think it's healthy to gain perspective. One thing I've thought about bringing to Clearwater Beach City is the idea for a concrete sidewalk that runs down near the Gulf of Mexico's shore...maybe a wider/patio-like area once you get there. I know, everyone says, but they have beach-chairs with big wheels, but it's really impractical for me...having to get two strong guys to transfer me, roll me down there. If i get too hot, which I'm going to in Summer (quads don't sweat), then i have to get these guys to push me back up to my chair (which might be stolen by then by a homeless quad...lol). Fuck that!! I want to push down there, hang out with friends, then leave. They spend gobs of money on the stupidest things in this city, maybe this is just another one.

I was talking to a para I know about this and he was pointing out why it's a good idea in theory, it's also kind of bad bc it gives a kind of tunnel vision - because yeah, sitting in a wheelchair you'll realize why curb cuts and such are important but maybe not realize other things that might make something inaccessible - like issues with doornobs or impaired hand/finger function, or impaired trunk movement, etc.

i think all businesses should have automatic doors...i'm a quad but i'd think it also has to be a pain for a para to fight opening doors when you're going in their business to buy stuff they should make it just as easy for you as anyone else.....lol dang that was a long sentence lol...i also agree with you Pony Tale it would be nice to hang at the beach with friends in our own chairs....but i guess if more of us wheelers would go to public council meetings and complain things might would start changing...i visit new orleans a lot and over the past 5-6 years there has been big improvements for us wheelers all around the tourist areas.
