So I figured I would put one of these up just to put myself out there. I'm not looking really for anything in particular, but it wouldn't hurt to make some new friends. I'm 29, straight, with muscular dystrophy. I live about 90 minutes outside Manhattan by car and about 2 hours away by train. I'm a lover of good music, good food and drink and good company. I'm a really laid-back and fun guy to be around and I tend to always find new and interesting ways of getting myself in trouble.
Here is a link to my photo thread if you'd like to know what I look like.
As I mentioned above I have muscular dystrophy, but I'll go into more detail. I currently use a power wheelchair, this is my 6th power chair since my first one when I was 13 years old. I could walk without assistance until I was around age 10. I found out about my diagnosis when I was 6, when my family had to move several years later we did so with the knowledge that I would need wheelchair and ended up buying a house with bedrooms on the main level to accommodate my eventual need. I have no useful function in my legs and only limited use of my arms. I need help with a lot of my daily tasks and I hire PCAs to assist me with basically everything. I'm currently on disability and not employed but that will be changing soon.
I keep busy with some volunteer activities, some good and helpful friends of mine and I live for live music in its various forms (shows, festivals etc.). My hobbies include composing/producing electronic music, live sound and lighting (which is really expensive and therefore not an active hobby at the moment) travel, camping (during the warmer months). I'm open-minded and I love deep conversation about really meaningful subjects. I don't practice it all that often but I'm very interested in meditation, self reflection and nonreligious (mostly Eastern) spirituality. I have largely lived a life of the mind for obvious reasons but as I mentioned above I greatly enjoy experiencing new and interesting things.
