I have always been fascinated by the actual need to use a wheelchair. Can anyone tell me the length of time it would take to induce muscular atrophy? What I mean is, how long would I have to spend in a chair if I did not use my legs at all before it became difficult and then impossible for me to walk? I find this subject very arousing as I am assuming quite a few of you do also. Please comment.

While I do not know the answer to this question, someone at a pretenders message board wrote me the following:
"This is bit of a wannabe fantasy. Simple lack of use won’t cause atrophy in non paralysed legs because a lot of involuntary muscle use goes on. However if a limb is in cast or something similar wastage does occur because the cast prevents even that if its well applied. Even after a long time in a cast muscles bulk up very quickly."

Not really on topic, but... my exgirlfriend somehow dragged me out to jet-ski with her and after an hour of exerting all possible leg muscles to keep her from flinging me off the damn thing, I had to lean on her to walk back to the car, then into the place where we hads lunch. She pretty much had to carry me. It was a little disturbing... I'm no wannabe, just a devo. But I couldn't stand up by myself, my legs were all spastic. So maybe some insane exercise binge could give you a temporary feeling of disability. For me it lasted about an hour or so.
