I was reading the necromanced "How did you find devoteeism?" thread. (Because I'm SUPPOSED to be gathering up the holiday foodstuffs... proactive procrastination, FTW!) Anyway, I know that the para devs really overwhelm the place. So I thought I'd make an attempt to encourage some talk about other disabilities.
I have found the occasional blind guy (both in fiction and irl) intriguing. There was this guy on match.com once, long hair, guitar player, kinda closed eyes, *swoon.*
I've heard devogirl talk about some different stuff that she finds attractive. Triggers, if you will. So, I thought I'd offer an opportunity for you to discuss, like we do with paraplegia, what you like about it. Appearance, the way they move, etc.
Or not, if you are not so inclined. But I'd like for peeps to feel more comfy discussing stuff BESIDES mobility stuffs.
(There is a coming glut of threads. That may move quickly down the page. But... oh, well, if that's the case.)

I have also found the occasional blind guy intriguing. I did see a very good looking blind guy a few years ago. It appeared that he was undergoing some mobility training with a sighted gentleman. The 'guide' had his hand lightly on the blind guy's should and it appeared that the blind guy was learning to use the white cane. It did really tickle a dev spot for me.

Thank you for this! As a wheeler AND blindness dev, I definitely think mobility is way more popular here. Not really anyone's fault, majority speaks, right? But it's great to see a thread for blindness!

As a non-believer, could you guys try and explain what it is about blindness that is so good to you? I have a few other little kinks that always get me (ok, just asthma, and it's not that little...sue me!), but blindness I just can't relate to. Not to be a hater though! And no need to get psychoanalytical about it if you don't want to either...I'm just curious

I'd put blindness in the category of a secondary interest for me. It's interesting, occasionally attractive but in my opinion not a huge turn on and ultimately I think the guy would be too disabled for me with the no driving thing. Daredevil was the perfect blind guy for me with his echolocation abilities

I'm not really a blindness dev, but it does push my dev button. Some years ago, I was interested in a cute blind Paralympian. I might be more into blindness if I had been exposed to more blind people in my childhood and youth. When I was a kid, at a friend's birthday party, there was a girl whose sight was severely impaired. I was very interested in it and had dev feelings for her. If she had been a wheeler, I would have felt "caught", but blindness not being my primary attraction, I was comfortable playing with her.

I never considered myself as a "blindness Dev" because blindness triggered the dev thrill on me. But I have to recognize that I really enjoy movies and books about blind guys. No dev thrill but kinda intriguing. When I was 17 (in the XX century... jajaja) my best male friend was really very short sighted. So short sighted that without his contacts or glasses he could only see blur. When he woke up in the mornings, without his contacs or glasses... I remember having something very close to a dev thrill when, looking at me, he used to ask me if "I was looking at him". But... I guess that "thrill" was there because I had a huge crush on him! LOL....so... having that crush for him and experiencing that moments where he could barely see... was really hot (or... the other answer: I was a horny teenager! LOL)
I guess that's why I voted "Blindness" as my secondary attraction on Emma's Poll...

Ok- blindness- I think I'm the same as most the other ladies so far.. It hits my button, but not something I fantasize about or really think about. One of my first dev books I found in elementary school was a blind man romance... Wow, I never read a good as fast as I did that one. But working with PWDs through school, I got to know several blind people, and it really just never did anything for me. Mainly (so sorry to say) they weren't very attractive. But I do get it... The fantasy of it. Oh man...the asthma thing is kind of embarrassing, actually. I think I've talked about it on a thread aaaages ago...sorry to resurrect! It's kind of a different kind of devness. Not sexual, per se, but the same sensation in my gut, but a really empathetic, emotional thing. It's a little ridiculous, as I get it and am extremely self conscious about it, but in guys? Hallelujah! I think it's a vulnerability thing, and on the scale of dependence it's pretty passive. Grawr.

As a non-believer, could you guys try and explain what it is about blindness that is so good to you? You know this can't really be answered. I can list all the things I find super hot about blind guys (feeling around, opaque eyes, different facial expressions etc) but I can't tell you WHY exactly, any more than you all can explain why SCI and not some other disability. We like what we like, that's it. If you read my book or Devo Diary, it's all in there, what I particularly like about blind guys. I wish I could get more of the blindness devs to post here; I'm constantly inviting them over but most of them seem to get bored with all the SCI talk. So yeah, let's hear from more blindness devs!

Bit of a blindness dev here too . It may not be my primary interest, but blind guys are definitely hot. The good thing is, they tend to occur more often in "chance sightings" than guys with other disabilities (granted, this may be due to my city, we've got a library and some other free time stuff for blind people here). Bad thing is, it's a lot harder to get to know them . And sure, it's not really possible to explain what makes your dev bell ring. With blind guys, it's a lot of the feeling around that devogirl mentioned for me too.

I've been meaning to post on this thread, but every time I open it, I just wander off to look for movies about blind guys I missed. I'd say blindness is my primary interest, along with paraplegia. Thanks to the fact I live in a pretty much zero-accessible city, I don't get to see blind guys very often, and when I do, I don't really find them attractive. Same goes for paras. What Emma said about blind guys being too disabled - it would actually be opposite for me since I don't need to do a lot of driving as it is, but most places wheelchairs can't go, so having a blind boyfriend would probably be less of a hassle logistics-wise. The guy I'm seeing now has some eyesight issues, which was a huge dev turn-on at first but it rarely comes up now, mostly because he tries to avoid talking about it and he can see okay most of the time... devogirl said it pretty much when it comes to what's attractive. This is just me, but I kinda prefer it if the guy can see a little bit, rather than nothing at all, just like I find it hotter if someone can walk or stand a little bit...

I just remembered I saw a cute blind guy some months ago. I only saw him from a distance, so I can't be sure if I would have liked his face close-up. Are you also attracted to colour blindness? One or two years ago, I met a guy, who I found reasonably cute. He wasn't that good-looking, but somehow I was a bit attracted to him. In the course of the evening, I found out he was colour-blind, which turned me on dev-wise (not as much as a wheelchair would have, but still...). It was as though I had sensed he had some slight devy quality. Some people have that devy aura around them.

OK this is a dual primary interest for me...the only PWD I've dated was a visually impaired guy back at Uni, it didn't work out with him - we weren't right for each other, but his blindness was really hot. In fantasy this is big for me, as has been said I can't explain any of it...way to early on my realisation of this big adventure, soo much self examination to come no doubt. I am a very tactile person so I think a big thing for me is the being explored and 'seen' through touch...

Basically everything that devogirl said. I can't say WHY either. I think from time to time my primary interest has changed, it used to be blind guys, switched to SCI, went BACK to blind guys, then on and on...right now my primary would be SCI, secondary amputee (which is new for me) and third would be blindness, but it's still high up there and definitely pushes the dev buttons.
