My buddy has been my roommate for past 1.5 years, but he's moving to one of his investment properties. So, going to run this ad on Craig's List to find a roommate that could also help me out in a pinch. Any of you ever do this kind of thing, or answer this kind of ad?
For Rent to CNA/caregiver/LP - July 1st!
1 Bedroom/1 Bath/Living Room/PVT Entrance/All Utilities included - $550 month! $100 deposit.
Renting out part of my beautiful home to the right person who works in the healthcare field. I’m a 55 year old, C5-C6 Spinal Cord injured (Quad) guy in wheelchair. I have an aide for 1 hr in a.m. and at night. I’m independent during day with my own pvt area of house. I’m musician/writer, drive and very adjusted, pleasant, healthy and easy to live with. My buddy is moving out because he bought a new place. I have big beautiful yard near EVERYTHING in Dunedin. Walk/bike easy to downtown/hospital/shopping.
I’m looking for a small amount of help at times, and will pay, or reduce rent. I never get home cooked meals anymore, so would love to share a few meals during the week if you’re a good cook. I hate most veggies! ; )
You get one furnished bedroom (Queen bed), one bathroom (standing shower only), furnished living room/HD TV, WiFi/cable/electric/water included. Share kitchen and washer/dryer. Some storage shed available.
Please be easy-going, not moody, compassionate, non-smoker/no drugs/social drinker only, no pet (maybe indoor cat/small dog), clean, trust-worthy, willing to help when I need (not that often), friendly, left wing minded, not a lot of visitors. Employed and own transportation a must. No criminal background. This can be a great situation for both of us.
I do have an extra bedroom for $200 more, if needed.
Please inquire via email with photo!

I think I'd pull out the stuff about political leanings, maybe number of visitors too... you're already looking for a pretty rare roommate. Would you really say no if you found the perfect candidate but it turned out they were anti-abortion and wanted to have their significant other stay over a few times a week (I'm assuming this is a separate living area, if not I get the visitors thing.)

Yah, ur probably right, Zap about the 'left wing' stuff., As for visitors, nah, I can't have them bringing bf for sleepovers. I have my own pvt section of house, a long way from the bedrooms, but really don't want some dude lounging around. I think i'll edit it, but wait for the right person - it's good price to get so much, I think.

Have you seen the movie Single White Female?
Hahaha. Enjoy your search.
I would have a difficult time sharing a space with someone who had completely different political leanings than I do.
I go into one part of Edmonton and people just look at me With their zombie eyes.

Yah, ur probably right, Zap about the 'left wing' stuff. I reckon keep it in! I think it would just make life more difficult if I shared my home with very different political views to me...not that I talk about them heaps, but home is home...for relaxing, no guards up etc. I hope you find just the right person soon

I agree with Peony, leave it in. If you have trouble getting someone then make a change. I think it is better to ask for what you really want. You may be suprised by how many suitable applicants you get

If someone rents a room, pays the rent, and has a private entrance, then I really do not think it is fair if they cannot have their boyfriend for a sleepover. Why not?
I think a lot of people would prefer their landlord to stay out of their private - bedroom - life. What happens in there is private, and you have to accept that. I do not think you can make rules for people´s private lives like that.
What if the visitor was a girl? Would that be different?
A possible boyfriend does not have to "lounge around". You can probably tell him to stay out of the shared areas of the house, but you cannot tell him to stay out of the rooms, that someone else is paying for.

i took it out…no big deal to me. My buddy lives here, right now, and we're totally different political views, and we debate sometimes, but we don't get crazy. lol I still don't want sleepover, girl or guy. They're getting great deal, and i just don't want bf or gf hanging out, unless i get to know them, and know they're cool. I live in my smaller part of house, and really not that much interaction with roommate. My buddy is really easy to live with…and we're buddies from way back, but i'm afraid of finding someone terribly irritating. I've had that before, and it's not fun.

How's the search going Pony Boy? I just re-read your add, I'm surprised I missed it the first time around but I'd drop the bit about including the photo as well maybe?
I've never taken out, or answered, an add for a roomate before so maybe that's common practice and no one will think anything of it. I totally get why you'd want one, and I wouldn't waste time meeting with anyone who wouldn't provide a photo after expressing interest in your add, but my own (admittedly bigoted) gut response would be that maybe you're looking for more than a roommate. As a woman I'd skip your add because I wouldn't want to deal with that, as a man I'd skip it because I'd assume you wouldn't be interested in letting me the rooms.

Here's my new version I'll repost today. I took a lot out, even the photo thing. Nope, not looking for 'more' than roommate, but sometimes you can get a feel for how someone looks. I guess I shouldn't be prejudice in that way, but can't help it. Anyway, I can see how it might be misconstrued,so out it went. I have until July, so no rush.
1 Bedroom/1 Bath/Living Room/PVT Entrance/Electric/Wifi/Water/Cable included - $550 month! $100 deposit. Extra bedroom/office available for extra $100.
Prefer someone who works in the healthcare field, but not required. I have big beautiful yard near EVERYTHING in Dunedin. Walk/bike easy to downtown/hospital/shopping.
You get one furnished bedroom (Queen bed), one bathroom (standing shower only), furnished living room/HD TV, WiFi/cable/electric/water included. Share kitchen and washer/dryer. Some storage shed available.
Please be non-smoker/no drugs/social drinker only, indoor cat ok, clean, occasional limited guests. Stable Employment and own transportation a must. Criminal background check required. I have my own pvt section of house.

New version looks good to me... and a smoking good deal too.
