Hey everyone! I am new to this Board and just figured that now would be a good time to introduce myself. I am a 38 year old guy from Kingston, Jamaica. I have been paralyzed since I was in a car accident at 22 (no one else was injured). It was a c6/c7 fracture in my neck. I have sensation and spasms in my lower limbs and my arms and upper body are strong, but there is some weakness in my hands. My left hand was graded at a 4 in strength and my right hand at a 3 (some of you will understand what that means). Luckily, I've managed to be fairly independent and lived on my own for a while when I was working in the country. But I am back home again in Kingston and living with a family member for the time being. I am basically here to try and meet a smart, sweet, beautiful, caring and funny woman and this seemed like a good place to do so. So, any ladies out there, from whichever part of the world, don't hesitate to reach out to me and say hi, if and when you can. I like the little community you guys have going here and hope that I will be able to join in and contribute to it as time goes by.

Welcome to PD, hope you enjoy being here and becoming part of this community, I don't think we have had anyone from Jamaica, at least not since I have been here...how is life for disabled people in Jamaica?

Welcome! I've only been once, but Jamaica's beautiful! Not to mention...you guys grow some gooood shit! Thanks! Yes, Jamaica is a beautiful country. The weather is fantastic most of the time and the people are generally laid back (sometimes too laid back). I don't smoke myself, so I couldn't tell you from personal experience, but Ganja (weed) is not too hard to find here, if you're looking for some. Lol! Who knows, maybe if you plan on coming down again one of these days, maybe I'll show you around.

Welcome to PD, hope you enjoy being here and becoming part of this community, I don't think we have had anyone from Jamaica, at least not since I have been here...how is life for disabled people in Jamaica? Thanks for the warm welcome. Especially from a super-duper member like yourself! Lol! Unfortunately, I don't have much good to say about the state of accessibility for the disabled in my country. Most of the buildings are quite old and were built years ago, without any thought to people like myself. A few of the newer buildings have ramps for wheelchair access, but not much more. There are few proper disabled parking spots which have enough space for someone to open a car door and take out a wheelchair, without hitting the car next to you or a wall or sidewalk. There is no real code or law in place to make things accessible unfortunately. As usual the government keeps talking about trying to make life easier for the disabled, but as with most governments they don't really do all that much. That was probably the most depressing realization after my car accident. Jamaica needs to catch up to the rest of the world in a lot of ways. I've thought about moving to the U.S. but there are too many restrictions for immigrants like myself right now, plus the health care is better here right now. I would hate to have to try and jump into the U.S. health care system as a disabled immigrant. Maybe I should think about Canada?

I can imagine a jump from Jamaica to Canada would be quite a shock.
