Touché . Well, as you said, Devogirl, I guess it's all about Michael Weatherly being hotter then hottest.

Anyone seen the latest House episode? Should end all speculations how it would have been if House was to use a wheelchair.

wow, great thread. i appreciate the suggestions on the books. (here and in the dev fiction thread) i remember i picked up 'a man like mac' ages ago but don't think i ever read it. i should dig it out. it will be my first 'harlequin romance' ever. lol it's so discouraging that there is so little out there in terms of books, tv, movies to satiate our devo itch. devogirl, are there any autobiographies in particular you'd recommend? i've read a bunch but nothing that i really thought was great. i'd like to find some good ones. joan of arcadia was a show i liked anyway, so the fact that kevin was in a chair was a total bonus, even if he wasn't all that convincing and had that bad hair. ;D season 2, episode 10 was probably my favourite for kevin's storyline if anyone is inclined to download it. obviously logan was the best thing to happen on tv for devs yet. the friday night lights guy is too young and just so not my type. but i tape it and watch his segments, nonetheless. beggars can't be choosers. i remember for a couple of episodes of buffy the vampire slayer spike was in a chair. bad chair, bad form...sadly. but i appreciated the attempt at least. back to books, i know that jeffery deaver has a series (lincoln rhyme?) where the main investigator is a high quad. they are crime/murder stories. i read one of the earlier books and meant to go back and try the others. not sure how much (or how accurately) disability stuff is featured, but i thought i'd throw it out there for y'all. i also wanted to give my thumbs up for "the men". one of my favourites. i love the fact that none of us ever seem to bring up tom cruise in 'born on the 4th of july'. ha ha. please keep the suggestions coming! i think i might head over to amazon and see if i can score myself a cheesy romance for $.01.... ;D

'Born on the 4th of July' - Tom Cruise snarling a lot. Spare me. And what was wrong with Kevin's hair on 'Arcadia'?

What about that movie with Angelina and... Denzel? He was a high quad in a bed the whole movie solving a serial killer mystery, it was titled something like "Bones..." OK, I suck at remembering this movie. I guess since the guy was laying in a damn bed the whole time it didn't capture anything a dev would enjoy. Ladies, I say we band together and start our own production/publishing company.

"The Bone Collector", based on the book by Jeffery Deaver. There's a lot more 'living with a dis' stuff in the book, probably left out because the producers were thinking demographics. We are a minority, I'm afraid.

Ah yes, I just read a book by him with that character. The Coffin Dancer, not a bad book actually. Wasn't reading it for a devo purpose obviously, someone just let me borrow it (didn't even know had a quad in it).
Wasn't Samuel L. Jackson in a wheelchair in 'Unbreakable' not sure if it was mentioned before, or even if I'm thinking of the right movie...wouldn't be of any devo value anyway...

I'm not devogirl, but on the off chance you haven't read this, I particularly enjoyed "Moving Violoations" by John Hockenberry. It's great stuff, and a classic.

I suspect you all weren't wild about 'Born On The 4th Of July' was because Cruise's character was pretty scruffy, poorly dressed, angry and not too attractive through much of the film.
I thought his gimp portrayal was pretty good, and in some scenes his physical resemblance to Kovics was uncanny.

Yep, I've read "Moving Violations". John Hockenberry is sooo cute.
Yeah, Tri, poor personal hygiene and a completely unapproachable attitude pretty much rate as turn-offs for me.

Yeah, but "Dark Angel" was a comic book genre sci-fi TV show that was all fictional, including it's depiction of Logan (or whoever's) paralysis and cure.
"The Waterdance" is all the more insulting exactly because it was written by a quad with autobiographic input. I won't go into the old debate about how he should have used real quads in the movie, I understand the studio mixing financing with "marquee" recognizable stars, but he could have had more input into their portrayal so that their disability and rehab was more realistic. They went from halo to super-para's with nearly no sign of active rehab or concept of the time (and effort) it takes to rehab, regardless of the fact that they all recover para-like function with the exception of the older Hispanic patient and young Korean kid.
It only feeds the "misinformation" and "misconceptions" out there, like that the lower functioning quads are just "lazy" and not trying "hard enough" to recover to the functional ability of a Mark Zupan (no offense to him, just as an example of a high functioning quad).

OOops, I forgot to include devogirl's message in the beginning of that rant on "The Waterdance":
"Oh come now, why are we all ganging up on Waterdance? It's not that bad, particularly in the "AB actor pretends to be SCI" genre. And the director was a quad himself, so it's not completely inaccurate. In fact, it's more accurate than Dark Angel, which we all love so much."

Anyone ever see an Irish film called Rory McCoy was here? He's a quad with MD. VERY good movie. Very realistic.
