Hello everyone! It's so amazing to find out I'm not alone! I was almost convinced female devotees were a myth and I was the only one... I found out what a devotee was about a year ago, and at first I was terrified, I thought there was something wrong with me. I'm well over that now, but still full of doubts and worries. I'm 29 and I've been fascinated by different forms of disabilities as long as I can remember... I know this is a place for SCI devs, but I'm mainly an amputee devotee (though I do have a weak spot for wheelers too, and for VIs)... am I still welcome here? Because I don't know who else to talk to! I tried other devotee communities but there were mostly men, and some of them had a slightly disturbing attitude. I know it's a small minority but it scares me! I'm socially awkward and very anxious, but most of all I'm afraid of negative judgment. I'm afraid people around me will not understand my "weird" attraction, I'm afraid of approaching someone I like because they might think I'm one of those few devs that stalk and harass people, or worse they might think that being a devotee I would do anything they ask and be a "easy girl". Does (or did) anyone else have the same fears?

Hi Lamara Welcome aboard. You are exactly at the right place. Don't worry. Many of us have these fears. It's a process. For me it seems much easier to accept how or what I am the older I get. Almost all my fears I had when I was younger are gone. ;-)

Welcome ... And you are in the right place ... Ppl here are into all types of disabilitys ... Some are not into sci at all .
I had the same fears and to a point I think there wear all valid. Those fears sometimes keep you safe. But don't let the fears that are ment to protect you stop you from having fun .
Hope to see more of you :-)

Thanks! I'll definitely stick around and once my shyness is gone (it doesn't last long when I have awesome people around) I'll be posting like crazy... I'm making a big effort not to let my worries and fears stop me. I'm sure talking to like-minded folks is going to help! Anyone else living in the UK, by the way?

Welcome to PD, Lamara!
It's a bit sad that our board's name makes new people believe it's only for SCI devs. In fact, it's for devs of men with any kind of physical disabilities, including blindness and deafness.

I'm afraid people around me will not understand my "weird" attraction, I'm afraid of approaching someone I like because they might think I'm one of those few devs that stalk and harass people Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw. I still find it a bit adorable that most devs at one point or another have called their attraction "weird". I prefer "exotic". The x makes it sound cooler. Anyways I think you'll find that here at least, most pwd's are pretty okay with Devs. Anyways, welcome to the boards! You know...I heard rumors of a pwd skype group going around. It could be an interesting way to get to meet and talk to some of the other board members...I mean if such a group existed anyways... sike. paradevo.proboards.com/thread/5824/starting-skype-group

All this shorthand slang I'm having to pick up on... VI is "vision impairment"?
