Just as we assumed Ruth didn't really get a chance to actually talk about devotees in that stupid BBC documentary and here she is speaking up

Thank you, Dani, for posting the links and thank you, Ruth for putting your face out there and speaking up for us.
(Totally unrelated: Ruth, I love your boobs!)

Hi Dani , I watched the bbc programme and was disappointed with the negativity shown to devs. I realise that negative publicity is I'm afraid good. Publicity in their eyes..so wrong...the good thing for me was it made me aware of the devs site on f.b. Which I have joined and from that met some great devs and made friends..From that I am mow here... Having had my disability now for 38 years and experienced many things, I was so unaware of devs.. Thank goodness you are all out there . New here hoping to chat with nice people .. So thank you again Dani X

Personally, as a liberal adult, I've come to accept my devness, and I'm accepting of all sexualities, orientations, preferences, kinks, fetishes, w/e. I understand that TV and other mainstream media, as well as social media, can easily twist and warp reality, sending only the message they WANT you to see. So as an adult watching this doco, it's content didn't really surprise me. However, had my preteen or teenage self watched this, I have no idea what kind of effect it would have had on me. I think we can all imagine. I spent most of my life thinking my attraction was sick and wrong, and this doco would have confirmed those feelings! This doco is so dangerous and it makes me sick. How irresponsible of BBC to send such an awful message, no young innocent dev should be compared to a paedophile. I know there aren't meant to be any under 18 members, but there might be some reading this, and I just wanted to say that it's OK, there's nothing wrong with being a dev

I'm a slacker and haven't watched the documentary or followed the subsequent threads on here, but has anyone written the BBC? I doubt there's anything they would do in terms of making any corrections but they should know that they're airing bullshit. They may even pull it from re-airing in the future?

Problem is, it's already aired and the damage is done. I find it insulting that they think a gimp can't cognitively decide for themselves whether or not to be with a devotee. They must think devs have some strange hypnotic powers that make a gimp powerless to resist them (well okay, some do...but I digress...) or that gimps aren't capable of making an adult decision on whom to be with. I can choose to be with a dev, I can choose to be with a non-dev AB, or another gimp, or no one at all. It's my choice, not anyone else, and especially not the British Broadcasting Corp. This would make a nice video response message.

The thing is... that yes, we need to speak for ourselves. Ruth is doing an admirable job of it. But I think that we won't gain any more acceptance within the PWD community (if there is one) until PWDs and PWD couples start sharing and speaking out. Because OF COURSE we're going to say that we're not crazy and/or problematic. So, ultimately, for many people what WE say won't mean much.
And, I think that we need to admit that many devs DO behave badly. I've only watched a couple of Ruth's more current vids and I'm glad that she's reasonable in advising caution.
Anyway, that's my 2 cents. For whatever it's worth... I'm certainly not making videos to gain our acceptance. I HAVE told most of my friends and family... but that's it.

I just want to hug Ruth after hearing these, and I agree that we're on the same side of the argument--but I will continue to say that the best way to spread dev acceptance is to NOT be afraid and just get out there. It makes me very sad/want to bang my head against the wall when I hear that y'all are afraid of the very thing that you want the most...
