I've been working on writing a new story recently. It is looooong... like, book length. And it's a departure for me in that it's about a higher level quad (C4/C5). Also, the protagonist is a little younger. (She's 24, which very sadly, is getting further and further away from my own age. (I'm old.))
So my dilemma is this: the protagonist in the story is dealing with her own personal issues, and that does take up a chunk of the story. My question is that when I post it to the blog, should I drop her personal drama? I can make the whole complete work available as an e-book for people who want to read it when the whole thing is posted.
Or should I just post everything in its entirety?
I don't want to be boring! I know what you guys are really here for!

Good question. Will it make sense if we don"t know about her past? Your stories are great, Annabelle.

hey annabelle. i don't really have an opinion about your question... although two versions sounds interesting if it's not a lot more work. (i'd probably read both.) i'm mostly posting to say that i'm excited to hear about your new project and thrilled to hear it's about a quad.

Hi Annabelle,
I absolutely love your writing, you are really my favourite author on this site (sorry others...), how much of a chunk is her personal issues? Will the story make sense without her personal drama? Will it impinge on the devvyness?
Like Dolly said above, i'd probably read both of them anyway.
When do you plan on posting the first bit?

queenkala: I promised myself that I wouldn't post this story until I was at least somewhat happy with it, and I'm working my way through it, trying to make myself happy. I'm hoping by the end of April, I'll be happy with it.
I guess I can see what the response is to the story first. It might be nice to have a bonus version that gets more into the protagonist. Like when you get the DVD version of a movie with the extra scenes in it. (Although sometimes you realize there was a REASON why they cut out those scenes...)

I'd like you to post it in integral version right away. There must be a reason the main character has her drama. It is a piece of literature, so why to mutilate it?

I'd prefer to read the full version, but I'm curious what everyone else prefers. The "devvy digest" or a fully realized novel? To me, a deeper story makes those devvy parts even sweeter!

Well, I'm attempting to build up the hype enough to guarantee that everyone will be disappointed. That's my game.
Seriously though, I am a little worried. The guy doesn't even come into the story until maybe scene three.

OMG, Miss annabelle! I think about the same thing, whether or not to withhold non-devvy stuff. Personally, I'd love to read your book in it's entirety

Thanks everyone! Editing going faster than I thought, so maybe I'll have something sooner. It seems like there are periods where the blog is so crowded, I don't want to add to the congestion. And then there are periods where nobody posts anything for like a month.

A vote for the whole thing from me! I think it would put the story into context if we know more about the protagonist's psyche.

And then there are periods where nobody posts anything for like a month. I really don't understand why there is a one post per day rule. If a few people want to post a chapter i think they should be allowed. I hardly think there would be an occasion where so many people post on one day that the posts go onto the second page. I just want more stories all the time...
