i have a question about something that happend to me today what never happend to me before what kind of schokked me.
so here is what happend so i have a lady friend that has her own horse at a horse riding school 2 days ago. she asked me if i would like it to join her there sometimes so i went with her to the horse riding school yesterday for the first time. we had a lot of fun so i joined her again today but this time the owner came to my friend when she was in her stable to tell her that i wasn't welcome anymore. my friend of course asked why i wasn't welcome anymore because it has never been a problem to bring somebody with her and i wasn't bothering anyone or anything. thats when the owner replied that she didn't want disabeld people at her horse riding school because it wouldn't look good when people would want to have a look in her horse riding school to see if they would subcribe. my friend got really angry and is now searching for a new horse riding school.
so i wanted to ask if any of you experienced something like that

Wow. Just wow. Yeah, sounds like a new riding school is a good idea. I mean, this sounds so narrow-minded that it's hard to believe. Do people like that really exist??

I am sorry that you had this experience, hotwheels. I had a few experiences at my work place...students who were about to cancel the semester because they didn´t want to be in a class together with someone, for example with a disability. As a teacher, I thought I couldn´t do much about it, I reported to my boss and she offered private classes and discounts to the disabled girl. I really hated this decision and felt guilty. The rest of the class felt bad, we had included her in our whatsapp group and everything... Something like that happenened to a guy who was completely burnt, but in this case I didn´t report, I just told my boss the 2 students who felt "uncomfortable" didn´t like the book and left....at the risk of losing my job! I would do it again though. Someting like that, but not too comparable, happened when I wanted to take part on a exchange. My teacher basically explained that they expected a german girl, not a brazilian to show up in england, so I wasn´t allowed to take part. There are ignorant people everywhere.

Lawsuit, she's running a business and that's textbook discrimination.

What the hell? That is really discriminatory and bears of any sence at all... I would make that public, destroying her business and taking everything from her.

How disgusting! Let's hope, for her sake, she never has a serious accident as she wouldn't cope with having any self disability!

See, I was just laughing my head off at the Faker posts, then I read this and I'm infuriated. First off, I am SO SO sorry that happened to you Turbowheeler that's just absolute petty garbage. I would've told that woman off so fast her head would be spinning. Then I would've taken my business to another stable, because like hell I would pay to board my horse there after that. I rode horses for about ten years, and I would seriously do that. Screw her. Barn owners are often uppity rich people who also cater to other uppity rich people, and god forbid the WASPs have to place their delicate eyes on someone that doesn't fit their idea of perfection. smh. I rode at a barn when I was very young that would host shows and only let the rich kids win top place, no matter how skilled the rider was (I was one of the "poor kids" that rode lesson horses instead of boarding my own, and I never won a damn thing. I switched barns and wound up winning Best of Show in our jumping competition). But I digress... I agree with darthoso this is lawsuit material. Riding stables are businesses and they cannot discriminate based on what she said. If it was a fact of their not wanting the liability of allowing someone disabled to ride on their property that might be one thing, but then there are avenues around that, such as waivers. But no, she had already allowed you on her property once. Did you ride or just spectate? Not wanting you there just to spectate is even worse. My ex used to love to watch me ride, I'd be furious if this happened with him.

With the horse place, some letters and Yelp could do a lot. The school thing is a lot more troubling to me. It sounds like their solution was to kick her our of the class? That's seriously fucked up.

I would do it again though. Repulsive. Why would your boss decide to isolate the disabled girl? It's punishing her when she's done nothing wrong, just to appease a couple of weak-minded individuals. That's so sad. This is why I never went into education as a career (I originally wanted to be a HS English teacher). All my friends who are teachers seem to have to tolerate so many ridiculous decisions from administration. I wouldn't be able to keep my mouth shut. This is college I assume? I love how there's all this uproar about student-on-student bullying, but administrators are allowed to do something like that? Sounds like bullying to me...hell, sounds like outright discrimination, actually... but what do I know... Good for you advocating for the other student. I would've done the same thing. No job is worth my integrity. People disgust me sometimes.

Damn, I'm sorry to hear that hotwheels. I have no idea how I'd react; I live in a pretty liberal/progressive bubble and never run into overtly discriminatory people. If anything, they kill me with kindness.

Honestly the best way to react to that is just smile, because you've won. Stay respectful, get them to repeat themselves as much as possible, try and get a third party witness (sneak a video on your phone), and leave. Don't get angry, don't tip your hand, because you're not trying to change their mind at that point, you're not interested in doing business with them, so don't argue. Immediately contact a lawyer while it's fresh. Let the lawyers deal with the rest.

So sorry this happened hotwheels. I can't believe either that there are actually ignorant people like that out there. It always baffles me when I hear stuff like that. I wonder what the problem was with you being there? Because you are in a wheelchair and it may give people, who are interested in the stable, the wrong picture of the place or something. That is just so wrong...so sorry again...

No job is worth my integrity. People disgust me sometimes. In the US that's against the law, massively, when I started Public School the Special Education Director put me in the pre-K Special Education class with 20 kids, all non verbal with Downs and Autism. Even better the classroom only had one teacher for half the day, which is also illegal. The final straw for my parents was when the teacher disengaged my chair because I was misbehaving. The Judge didn't even hear the case, he told the School District's lawyers to settle it to my parents satisfaction or he would for them. My parents didn't sue for any money, just that they put me into a normal classroom next year and pay the tuition for the Private School they put me during the lawsuit.
