Hopefully, we are all attempting to take advantage of the good times summer offers before seasonal mood disorder kicks in. I know that some of you live in places that are blessed with nice weather all year around. I don't HATE you for it, but...I do really, really dislike you for it Regardless of your country of origin or position in relation to the equator, summer is a magical time. What do you good people of Paradevo do for fun? If you go someplace interesting, tell us about it. Post a picture. If you went to see a great concert, give us a listen to the artist. Do you have any recommendations for PWD friendly excursions (which might also mean Dev friendly!)? Let's get interactive up in here! It seems appropriate for me to contribute first. These days I'm good for about 4-5 hours in my chair before my various muscles and joints become too vocal to ignore, so I plan my outings accordingly. - Movies. I try for lunch and a movie once a week with friends or my nephew. It helps keep me sane to have this little routine. I love the theater experience and even crappy movies (which is most of them, lately) are fun with friends. A pair of summer movies that I particularly liked were Baby Driver and Atomic Blonde. The main character in Baby Driver has tinnitus...just throwing that out there - Local outdoor art festivals. Denver has a couple of huge ones which are enjoyable for a while until the stress of fighting crowds gets to you. That's why I prefer the local festivals in Parker, Castle Rock, and sometimes ones in the small mountain towns if I can convince someone to take me. The small quaint towns and natural landscapes are often even more visually satisfying than the artwork. I'll include a local Farmer's Market that I try to hit a few times during the summer. Not only is the food amazing, but the people and dog watching are endlessly entertaining. - Outdoor concerts. Red Rocks is beautiful! I wish that had gotten there this season. Instead, I hit two stadium shows at Mile high Stadium, one with Metallica and the other with Guns N' Roses. Yep, it's 1992 all over again. My nephew lives with his grandparents and I and I take great pleasure in taking him out to these events. He's a bit sheltered since we live in the sticks. That's another thread though. These were fantastic big rock shows with classic songs that everybody knows and a lot of shit blowing up. Both bands played for upwards or 3 hours, though there was an hour weather delay during Metallica because of lightning (Ride the Lightning!). Both shows I had to jet slightly early so I didn't fall over from muscle fatigue Still totally worth it! - Car shows. There are a bunch of small car shows in and Denver mainly featuring classic old cars. Those are sweet, of course, though I prefer the exotics like Ferrari and Lamborghini. That's just me. The best annual local show for my money is the Colorado Concours d'Elegance & Exotic Sports Car Show. It has a lot of everything I admire, all the sleek European models with the sexy lines and gorgeous tails. I'm talking about cars folks! This year was especially fun since my nephew and niece are older and appreciate the cars more. - Other faves include patio dining, outdoor movie nights, vintage airplane shows, and taking pictures. Someone else takes them. I direct and often end up doing A LOT of cropping. My Lord, that took a while! I really should get outside Who's next?

Since I'm a teacher, I get two months off in the summer. Pre kid, this was pretty amazing, and I spent my time going for hikes, to the beach, out for lunch/dinner/drinks with friends...now that I have a kid, I go on hikes or to the zoo with him, go to the park, try to aim for play dates so that I can talk to other adults. Being off work isn't as great as it was before, because I miss social interaction with other people who aren't 3.5 years old haha.

Since sun is a rarity over here now, summer activities aren't exactly drenched in sizzling heat. But in recent years I've loved taking a city holiday for about a week, walking around, just generally exploring.
Sounds boring in writing but pushing myself and making the most of what I never thought I'd have at a time of year where everyone is in the highest of spirits is just magical.

@hopper, strolling around the city used to be my favorite activity, too. Especially in these old European cities like Paris, Barcelona, Copenhagen etc. It's not the ideal thing to do with small kids, though.
Nowadays the best thing for me in summer is that I always have an excuse to get a scoop of ice cream in the street. 😊

You'll have more options as your kid gets a little older. They are so needy when they're that young! Since sun is a rarity over here now, summer activities aren't exactly drenched in sizzling heat. Sounds boring in writing but pushing myself and making the most of what I never thought I'd have at a time of year where everyone is in the highest of spirits is just magical. That does sound magical and not at all boring, quite the opposite in fact. I'm happiest when I get to a place that I can just relax and explore. Oh, and like you said, everyone around is in "high spirits." Here in Colorado, that could have another meaning since marijuana was recently legalized. @hopper, strolling around the city used to be my favorite activity, too. I'm not gonna judge either. I mean it is a bit unusual to get a scoop of ice-cream in the street instead of a bowl or a cone, but that all depends on flavour. Joking aside mona and Sir Paul , thanks for the kind words. And I also agree with Paul, Summer cinema is usually the best. Baby Driver being one of this year's highlights for the soundtrack alone.

You spelled flavor wrong, pal Well, I have to admit I had to look it up 😏. Ice cream related word fields were not part of the English curriculum at my high school. And actually, I hesitated to write "scoop" because the only time I have come across that word was with this Woddy Allen film with the gorgeous Scarlett Johansson. Anyway. Talking about ice cream flavo(u)rs is a great way to see directly into a person's soul. I am always trying the most exotic or unusual flavor they have. Once it was gorgonzola-pear. That one will remain a once in a lifetime experience, though. Today I had crema al limone. Not bad. But if I had to nominate my favo(u)rite, I'd say salted caramel. 😑

I like cotton candy flavored ice cream too (without the extra U)! I have a 3 and 4 year old so my summer has been similar to yours parashoot. Thankfully I have gotten some time without kids as well. Concerts, restaurants, camping and even a ski trip were what I did during kid free time.

This is a weird transition summer. Since my youngest graduated high school this year, and she's taking a gap year, it's the first summer without "back to school" looming. I am going on vacation next week, camping a kayaking as always!! Usually I camp, swim, kayak and garden as my summer go-to activities. This summer has also been different as I just got promoted so have been working longer hours, so less time in the yard. Also, Alf isn't in the states this summer, so that's different, too. The one thing I really wanted to do, last minute, was go see a really good friend, but it just isn't going to work, logistically. 😭😭😭😭 Soon!!! LOL Summer, for me, is about enjoying the too brief warmth in New England. I'm blessed to live near a beautiful pond inhabited by lots of ducks!! And peepers!!! I love listening to peepers. I also live minutes from the woods and three different lakes. Then, of course, there's the ocean just a couple hours away. It's really a wonderful area. Just too damn cold for two damn long!!

Summer has definitely changed meaning for me over the years. I used to love staying up really late drinking wine outside, soaking up every ounce of summer heat there was to have. I loved finding reataurants with outdoor spaces and sitting there drinking in the afternoon and evening. Now I have a kid and cannot handle a hangover, haha. My parents have a little place on Cape Cod. It isn't on the ocean, but a very clean lake which I actually prefer. We go a few times a summer and eat great food and do a lot of swimming. We also go to zoos, farms, parks, museums. Anything to get us on the go. I used to hate the summer heat and humidity but I adore it more as I get older. I dread the short days so much! The snow and cold doesn't bother me so much.

before my accident I used to love swimming. its been 20 plus yrs since I've been in a pool. a couple weeks ago I started thinking of ways I could get in a pool. I decided to get a manual wheelchair and an above ground pool. I'm going to put the chair in the pool then fill the pool up to my chest. I actually ordered the pool yesterday. I'm very excited to see how it works!! I'll let y'all know how it works out.

It reminds me of how Jones Soda releases their Thanksgiving pack with turkey, mashed potatoes & gravy, stuffing, and brussels sprouts flavored sodas. ((shudders)) I still have nightmares about that taste testing. I like cotton candy flavored ice cream too (without the extra U)! I usually end up getting a scoop of pistachio and another of some kind of mint. Rocky Road is close behind.

It's usually blue and pink. Also delicious.
I like ice cream with chunks of stuff too...nuts/peanuts/peanut butter, cookie dough, brownies, whatever...and every time I go to get ice cream I tell myself to pick something different, but I get cotton candy 9 times out of 10.
