Can we all invest in a giant accessible commune and just live an accessible life. It's soooooo hard to freaking find accessible apartments in Seattle. Everything is hilly. We got lucky with our current unit but home prices are exploding I just want to develop an accessible multifamily and invite all my friends and we can have a giant orgy once a month or so. And a cookout. No but really it's ridiculous some of the stupid designs they come up and then try to sell as accessible too. We went to a hotel recently and the shower bench was stainless steel so any soap during your shower and you'll slip right off. Genius design. (It did look cool but it's definitely a hazard) I’ve thought about this so many times. If I hit lotto, that’s my mission

if things had worked out with my ex bf i would have made my house fully accessible. it would not be hard....no stairs or anything. just probably need to make the doors wider and redo the bathrooms.

There's always the next one lol. All the modification stuff is pretty simple and cheap I just need bigger rooms especially kitchen and bathrooms from what I have now.

(It did look cool but it's definitely a hazard) The multifamily would be great for people starting out, but eventually people are going to want to have their own separate place. There would also be a little weirdness for me to live with a bunch of other wheelers. Though if I was single that would probably be outweighed by the concentration of PCAs working in that area. For hotels, I guess there are no consulting firms (or they don't use them) to tell them what idiots they are. They do so many stupidly obvious things. I am so glad I rarely travel now, because the trend is to make accessibility worse. I was at a brand new Marriott in DC and had to move because I could not get onto the toilet. They took the standard bathroom, added grab bars and an ADA toilet and roll-in shower, and that's it. The bathroom was just too small and I could not navigate as needed to transfer to the toilet. In another DC hotel, they had a great, large ADA room that they converted to a non-ADA room so they could sell that room as a junior suite. And then there's the super-high, super soft bed trend. At this point it's better to stay at the more modest hotels because their ADA rooms are more "normal."

(It did look cool but it's definitely a hazard) There is a place here that kind of does this. You have to be disabled to live there and all units are more or less accessible. They also have a helper there 24/7 who you can call via intercom to help you. They are not a PCA though, and not allowed to help much with personal care. But they can help you if you dropped something, need something out of the fridge, etc. I toured there and considered moving in but a couple things I didnt like. The bathrooms were still small for them being accessible, and there was only a shared kitchen. So a good attempt at an accessible commune but still needs improvement...

I have a more in depth response but I'm on mobile and too lazy to try to quote people but I still think about Haneda Airport in japan. Their public restroom was so nice and accessible on my return flight I made a point to go back to the restroom and take a video of it because I only took pictures on my arrival leg. Here are some pics & video photos.app.goo.gl/r1nuhKA9G3TSdekB9

This thread is so GOOD. I also want to touch on accessible transit outside of medical transport thanks to @theboulder88's comment. The Ubers, Lyfts, public transit etc regarding my fellow Wheelers', but I'll start a thread soon to share some Hacks or tips on how to navigate. Socializing is tough without spending a lot on transit etc.
I'll be looking into accessible apartments over the next few years and those pics of the DREAM home were great. Are there any Dev's in a relationship now or in the past that live/d together with a PWD open to sharing their experiences in what they found to be good or bad pertaining to the design/accessibility? Even open to sharing what you'd like to see or have in the future?
- Sidenote, some accessibility adjustments that were more accessibly priced that I can think of quickly were: portable ramps, lockbox/key, automatic door openers, amazon dot com build-it cabinets, reacher/extensions to grab things from floors, portable tv screens/projectors, will add more if i think of more.

Update! So, the house sold for its full asking price ! But, to an AB couple. I'm bummed about that for more than one reason . I was told that the outside ramps are getting good use by all the neighborhood skateboarders . Kidding aside...I was really hoping it would be utilized by someone who really needs accessibility in their living space.

aww man I would love a house like this. We made my home more accessible before I came home from rehab, redoing the bathroom and creating a ramp around the side of the house to the back door. I still haven't been through the front door of my house since injury. I would definitely move to SoCal for a house like this.

I'm still having work done in my friends house. I can almost shower again!
I like how these homes are being built. Just wish there was a more affordable way...
