I’ve been involved in ParaSport most of my adult life as an athlete and now coach It’s great for us to push our boundaries and compete and I would of thought it would be great for a dev to see a PWD at there peak performance and be able to meet the competitors, we are all very approachable! My next competition www.rugbyasia247.com/2019-world-wheelchair-rugby-challenge/

I have never been particularly interested in sports, but I did watch a bit of the paralympics (just to look for attracitve guys ). A few weeks ago I got to know a guy who is a para and a hockey player. My interest in the sport skyrocketed . Anyway, I have never been to such a sports event either, but now I've learned that there will be one in Berlin in November... More or less around the corner. That could be a first ;-). The real life dev tingle is back...

I don't really enjoy watching sports an awful lot, but parasports have a certain appeal, for obvious reasons I had a phase last spring, when I watched a lot of wheelchair rugby on Youtube and a few weeks ago I discovered something new: Paraclimbing. My little brother is a climber and he watches these climbing competitions and some time during this summer he came to me super-excited and told me about these badass blind people, who climb. Turned out there were also badass amputees, who climb Needless to say, I was a very proud dev sister that day. My brother's not at all the type to get "inspired" by anything and he didn't think it was "inspirational" either. Just legitimately cool and badass So I watched a little bit of it with him, which was really nice and exciting! So, question for the devs: Are there any parasports you particularly like to watch? And to the guys: Do you watch or play any sports? And do you prefer watching parasports or regular sports?
Well... I am selective with the sports I watch in general, even more with disability-related sports. I try to get a bit of paralympics when they are life. Exactly one time I was able to watch Wheelchair-rugby life, and no, I'm not generally into guys in wheelchairs, but it was such a badass-rock-hard thing - I stayed and enjoyed the immensely high level of testosterone. Yummy! :-D
I was rightfully banished from the competitions of goal-ball and Showdown because I could not for the life of me stop cheering, and that was obviously counterproductive. There are hardly any national competitions on TV, so I do't get to see any of it, anymore. :-(
Free-climbing and bmx-riding are fascinating, but I am a chicken, and I can't stand to watch for longer periods - regardless if the athlete has a disability or not.

I watch a lot of professional & college sports and very few include individuals with physical disabilites. I played a lot of wheelchair rugby when I was younger and more recently I have taken up wheelchair tennis and the club throw (track and field event). As a C-5 quad I was able to classify as a F-51 for club which is exciting and it motivated me to train and get stronger.

I just realized I am apart of an online NBA2k20 league has 10 people in it and only one of them is AB.

Huh, that's funny... why do you think you're even more selective with disability-related sports? I don't watch a lot of sports either, but I'm definitely less selective with disability-related sports (for obvious reasons ). And yes! Freeclimbing gives you adrenaline from just watching - even when you know it ends well!

That sounds awesome! I've been thinking about going to an event like that forever, but for most of my life I just wouldn't have dared to - for some vague and paranoid fear of being "found out". (You know, that feeling of having "DEV" tatooed on your forehead, whenever you encounter a PWD in real life...) I'm a little braver now, but I haven't found any events anywhere close to me recently... I would love to go to a Paraclimbing competition with my brother now, though And I just found out that the Invictus Games will be held in The Hague in 2020! Not exactly around the corner, but it would be an opportunity for weekend-trip, perhaps... Maybe it could even be used as an opportunity for a little dev-meet-up Glad you're "a little braver now" although I'm sure you had/have nothing to worry about. I've been running, skiing, riding with strangers I've met along the way and never considered there was anything to "find out" because there probably wasn't. Even if there was... Sorry for the really late reply I'm sure you're right that it's much more in my head than anything else - that's how it is with so many things... But it's funny, I have recently noticed that the paranoia in real life really is getting better And about paraclimbing: I don't really know much about it in terms of how it works for different levels of ability, but I'm pretty sure the way they can design the walls with the different handles and hooks can be made pretty adaptable for amputees. I've also noticed that some amputees choose to climb with prosthetics and some without - so there's probably a lot you could try out and experiment with

And that does not change just because the athlete is handicapped, I think. Even if the athlete is cute and somehow triggers my devness. (And maybe I am too old to be attracted by athletes young enough to be my children.) There are not too many sports-related events in my close neighborhood for people with disability, those that are are not among the sports I like to watch for a longer time, and as I said before, I can't keep my mouth shut during goalball, so I don't get to watch it, and there is no broadcast of it I know about. *shrugs* Hm. I'll take that question with me for a while.

Never found parasport accessible to me, but I've always been interested in the concept. I know my area is looking into doing more "wheelchair sports" though what will ultimately come of that, I have no idea. I've been considering forming an eSports video game league, but that's been done before and personally, I don't feel comfortable deciding who can and cannot be on the team. I have yet to see a team that is both inclusive and skilled; usually, teams seem to leave out one of the two.
