Do you not think that by asking if we think she (or others in relationships) are devs, that we are perpetuating the assumption that only a dev could find pwds attractive ?

Do you not think that by asking if we think she (or others in relationships) are devs, that we are perpetuating the assumption that only a dev could find pwds attractive ? Nope, I personally don't I've never seen anyone here assume that any woman who is with a guy with a (severe) disability automatically has to be a dev. Of course, that would be silly and offensive. (But then we wouldn't have to ask the question, if she could possibly be a dev, right?) Because we're part of a very small and very invisible minority, I think it's natural to look for people out there in the wild, who might be "like us". It's a very human thing to look for people, who are like you. And what better place is there for us to look than women in relationships with PWD? So when there are little things like "she hung out at a wheelchair sporting event" or "she thinks he's extra sexy", I think it's only natural to go Ohh, you might just be one of us. It can also just be a little fun to guess and look for hints, sometimes. Edit: I don't think your question is completely invalid, though. It may sometimes be important to remind oneself as a dev that no, not every woman in a relationship with a PWD automatically has to be a dev (if one was prone to such thinking). But I don't think that asking the question per se perpetuates such an assumption.

It was because she met him while at a wheelchair sporting event. That caught my eye. No assumptions here at all that only a dev could find him attractive.

Dani, I pulled it down. Put it back up on dev only. Will put back here also since seems to have good discussion going.
