Hiya friends!
I just stumbled on this today, but Purple Hearts is a new movie on Netflix that features injury recovery as a major plot point.
It deals with a fake marriage and when the hero gets injured in Iraq, the fake wife has to take care of him. It is based on a novel of the same name by Tess Wakefield.
Trailer:
I skim read it and while it has some dev themes didn't seem to have a ton of research on the recovery from the type of injury.
I'm planning on watching it over the weekend and I'm curious to see how things are actually portrayed. Injury in the book wasn't permanent, so I'm interested in if the movie has done more research. I have no opinion yet other than skepticism and worry that they'll be pandering to a certain audience. Will report back!
Anyone else watched? Would love to hear other thoughts.

I went on a Google deep dive to figure out what his injury was. I couldn't find much so I started skipping through the movie - girl, there is a semi-sexy bath scene 40 minutes from the end

One of my besties that I’ve told about being a dev texted me this movie today! All she said was “Purple Hearts on Netflix 😉”. Part of my was like hmmm and when I just read the description I was like my girl is looking out for me! Haha
I just started it (at 2am because I just finished another show I totally got sucked into and now I’m wide awake)

Mehhhhhh I didn’t like it at all. Like did not enjoy anything about this movie (ok well maybe the cute doggo). No dev moments either. Extra details/kinda spoilers below: Marine gets blown up by an IED (right around the hour mark for ya Mae ) His leg is “shattered”. They do surgery/skin grafts Rickety ol hospital chair. This chick lives on the 3rd floor of a place with no elevator and they just bring this guy home 🤦🏻♀️ His PT & recovery is pretty ridiculous and lasts all of like 20 mins

I wondered if it was any good, it seems not great. It came up on our suggestions the other day and my husband put it on the "watch list" but I probably won't even look at it...
