I don't know how the situation is in the US, but here in Germany you need a clean health certificate to even apply to acting schools, also the private ones, so anyone with a disability, mental illness, chronic disease or just so much as severe allergies etc. would not be able to get proper training, which makes it very hard to get into film or television as a career. I only know of one quad who finished drama school and is now actually employed as a theater actor and this was a special case because he was already in drama school before he broke his neck doing a stupid stunt live on prime time television and thus became some sort of a celebrity.
You will get the occasional person with a disability being cast in a film or a series, like someone with Down syndrome or there's a German crime series that has a cute para in a small recurrent role as part of the police team, but that is really the exception.

That's pretty messed up. It's sad when people don't even have the chance to achieve their dreams!

I think I know who you're referring to. I can't remember his name but have his books.

Hi Dani, the quad who broke his neck during the show is Samuel Koch. The actor who is now a recurring character in the "Tatort" crime series is Tan Caglar, a standup comedian .

I really hope that eventually we'll see enough progress where the lack of inclusion and representation now will seem ridiculous.

I just read an article about a group of German film students working on their graduation film project, a love story where both partners had a disability. They stated from the beginning that they wanted to cast PWDs for the roles of the couple. Not only was it incredibly hard to find someone who fit the part and could act (due to PWDs not being admitted to drama schools), but when they finally had found a young woman with SCI and a young man with O.I., they could not get insurance for them, as the insurance company said the risk was too high. They finally gave in to insure at least the woman, but were adamant about the man (too many dangers on set etc.), so the film students ended up raising money to cover potential delays on set themselves.
