We're in the doldrums of winter here, and I'm finding it harder to get as much exercise as my body really needs. It occurred to me that others are probably in the same situation and maybe starting a fitness-related thread here could give us all a nudge of motivation? What do you currently do for exercise, and how is it going? Do you have any fitness related goals?
For me, I try to get 10k steps a day (this is the thing that's hard in the winter, especially working from home), a few calisthenics in the morning, and I pretty reliably do an online fitness class for an hour 2x/week. It was offered for free through my husband's work so he and I, along with our upstairs neighbor/friend, participate together in our makeshift gym basement. To be honest, I fucking hate it LOL -- it's a tabata-style HIIT workout -- but oddly enough I think absolutely hating it has been the key to being more consistent. Because I never expect to be in the mood to do it or enjoy it in any way, I can't give myself the excuse that I'm "not feeling it today." I just do it because it's good for me, and take a sort of perverse pleasure in bitching and moaning my way through it every time. I'm like the toxic coworker of our little gym group. I'd like to add in some workouts that I actually enjoy, but that's where I struggle with follow-through. Any tips?

Honestly, my tip is to just keep at it. You can bitch and moan all you want; as long as you make a routine of it, you'll generally be better off for it. Also the fact that you go as a group helps. Personally, I'm more motivated when I have people holding me accountable/making me workout when I'm not really feeling it Consistency is one of my biggest issues. It's so easy to start off strong, especially at the beginning of year, when new years resolutions are still fresh. But as you get further into it, it becomes way easier to make excuses not to workout...(I'm totally guilty of this.) Currently my routine is gym 3x/week and badminton on Saturdays. I've been slacking off lately due to holidays and weather, but hopefully I can get the routine reestablished ^_^;

I exercise every day EVERY FUCKING DAY except when I had Covid. The minimum is 15-30 minute push around the neighborhood, or 3 sets of weight lifting inside. I usually do more than that, but the minimum is there for when I’m still super busy or tired. In the winter I definitely do more weight lifting since I don’t have to go outside for that, and I got gloves and Arctic hat for outside exercise anyways. I also do rotator cuffs twice a week. Need to work on stretching my legs more though.
This video is my main inspiration:

I signed up for Peloton at the end of last year just for the trial. A friend suggested it and then I bought the membership for $14.99 a month. I don't have a Peloton bike or the treadmill, but I just do regular classes, stretching, yoga, boxing, meditation, body strength, foam rolling, and such things. It's kind of whatever I feel like. I also enjoy that they have German speaking instructors, I have fun doing their classes in my native language. I do it on my TV in the living room. I will probably cancel my gym membership because I just don't feel like driving there all the time; that's my excuse. Oh, and the guy in the wheelchair never looked at me so I have no incentive of going anymore It was a bit of a motivator for me every time I went to the gym to see him but after I tried many times to make eye contact and he like very much tries not to look at me, I lost interest in him. And he was like the only guy in a chair at the gym.

Physically, I can't exercise my body independently, but I alternate between getting my limbs and neck stretched by PT, and wearing foot and leg braces during afternoon breaks about 3 days per week. On the other days, I use an airway clearance vest machine with a nebulizer that connects with my ventilator along with postural drainage by being turned over to my right for about half an hour beforehand, to prevent the build-up of excess mucus in my left lung. So far, I'm feeling much healthier body wise and respiratory wise. Here's to hoping it stays that way.

Ugh consistency is a struggle for me, too. I get bored and burned out and that’s usually what leads to my downfall, so I find switching things up helps me. I have like four things I switch around (swimming, Pilates/yoga, cycling, running) and that helps me. I also give myself a pass on days I do active things that are my hobbies, like hike or climb or kayak. Idk, other people might not but it works for me to *not* double dip lol.
Also, I share this because I hope it’s encouraging: I’ve been casually running/jogging for liiikkeee twelve-ish years now? Like go for a run or jog at least 2x per week. There have been some breaks in there because LIFE but I always pick it back up. Anyway, I used to run and literally the litany in my head was “I hate this. I hate this. Why do I do this to myself?” 😂 Then suddenly one day I found myself actually looking around at the neighborhood I was in and appreciating and enjoying what I was doing. It was a huge mental hurdle (that I didn’t even realize I was struggling with) I got over all of a sudden and my mind was blown lol. YMMV but maybe eventually this’ll happen to you, too!
Good luck!

I had never been constant in any exercise in my life until the last year. I had tried to run, GYM, kick box, yoga, etc.In 2022 I´ve finally begun to swim in a regular way, and most important, TO DANCE! After a BIG breakup and a long grief period, I had realized that I could not stay at home just mourning anymore, so I decided to give dance sessions a chance, and Oh lord! I ´m not the best dancer at all (nor swimmer), but It was the boost that I needed to a)Build discipline and b) Get out of the grief. When the times become busy, I like to do excercise at home with Sydney Cummings (goddess).

loveonaroll2 whoa… usually I can parse it out okay, but a couple of commas and periods would be nice if you're able to do that. I have a couple of workouts in my routine: FES bike 2x weekly for 60 minutes, standing frame 2x weekly for 45 minutes, upper extremity weights & resistance bands 2x weekly for 15 minutes. In general, I'm a huge fan of fitness. FITNESS PIZZA IN MUH MOUTH.

I'm fortunate enough to be able to walk (with a heavy limp.) My basement/office is 20 feet long, so a round-trip lap is 40 feet and I try to do 100 laps per day, or 4,000 feet which is more than 1 KM but under a mile. I also try to do some dumb bell free weights, and I can do some awkward situps. I also do a sort of adapted push up where I stand in front of a table a bit back and do 45 degree pushups off it at an angle. My feet aren't strong enough and roll outwards to do a traditional pushup, but with this I can still exercise my shoulders. And it hurts, so I know it's doing something

I try to get to the gym 3 times per week and do other active stuff on my non-gym days... yoga, swimming, bike rides. I'm nowhere near the shape that I was a few years ago when I was doing bodybuilding shows, but slowly getting back there.

I'm in New Jersey, where we haven't seen much snow this winter. So getting to the gym isn't as hard as in other years. I go 3-4 times a week- walk 2-3 miles on the treadmill and on two of those dys, I lift weights. I love food though, so the weight always stays on. Under it though, I'm starting to feel some muscle development. I've been doing this routine since August.
