I've been away from this universe for a while, but we can't fight our feelings, so I recently returned to visit the blog and this forum. My primary interest has always been SCI/wheelers, and until last week I had never dreamed of anything related to this subject. However, what I found different is that in the dream I was involved with someone with a completely different disability (intellectual). And it was quite interesting. Has anyone else been through a similar situation?

Hey Gabs...nice to see you here again. I haven't had this happen in dreams, I don't really dream of dev stuff. I have had it happen in real life, though, where I found myself attracted to a man with a disability or assistive equipment that I primarily never really thought about before.

I have dev dreams quite often, actually. They usually involve one of my primary interests, though, and leave me with an almost euphoric feeling when I wake up.

I had a recurring dream for years and then was on vacation with my then husband and kids, walked into an info place for tourists and there sat the para guy in a wheelchair. Was completely blown away. I thought about him all the time. After my divorce I actually moved to this little town. Not because of the guy but I did look for him. Never saw him again and too embarrassed to ask at the info place. Very freaky!

My dev dreams do differ a bit from what I would say my main dev interests are. Most notably, I often dream about women with a disability. I know I would be attracted to disabled women, but in real life I have never acted on this, because I am also attracted to disabled men (maybe even a bit more) and it just made more sense to go "the easy road" (not that it's easy to find a fitting partner...). But in my dev dreams I'd say that it is more than 50% disabled women. Also, I used to dream about a blind woman. I do find blindness a bit interesting, but it's definitely a secondary interest. Somehow this dream has impressed me enough that the memory stayed with me until now.

Even though I am a dev and not a pretender, the recurring disability-related dream that I keep having is one in which I am pretending. Usually I am in a wheelchair but I can remember a few times in which I had a cochlear implant, braces/crutches, or blindness (even though these things are not typically devvy to me). It's an uncomfortable dream. I am always terrified of being found out -- someone who knows me as able-bodied encountering me in a disabled situation, or vice versa -- and sometimes I am unsure if I am pretending or not. The net is slowly closing in on me and I'm always on the verge of being exposed and humiliated. Yet, there is pleasure in "being" disabled. Sometimes the dream is so obviously symbolic, with my house full of closets containing wheelchairs and guests always about to open the doors and find them.

I think this is such a fascinating topic. And surprised this hasn't been brought up before. I dream about wheelchairs a lot- or rather, they are a recurring theme. It can be men, women, people of various genders. There have been specific film/tv characters in wheelchairs in my dreams and also people my brain made up. And I am attracted to these people, but usually from afar - we don't get to touch, it's just like I am admiring them and feeling sexual feelings. Sometimes I dream that I am using one. Which feels amazing, but then sometimes it doesn't quite hit the spot - or I am trying to find one to sit in, but never can quite get there because of various dream obstacles.
There was one time and one time only that I dreamt I was an amputee and had a prosthetic leg, and my god, that gave me *all the feels*. I didn't realise that was something that did it for me, but wow. What I would give for another dream like that.
