Hi everyone! Blindness dev new to the board here. Sorry if this has been discussed already, but I'm curious if anyone has thoughts on the Daredevil remake? I read somewhere that the first episodes were originally very Matt-centric (which I prefer over the violent daredevil scenes personally) but that it was scrapped and the new version will be even more violent and less Matt-centric (and therefore in my mind less devvy). Curious what you all think!

I have mixed feelings about the upcoming season, for a lot of the same reasons. I'm also not a fan of the ultra-violence, but the first season was so well done, I hope they can capture some of that again. It does seem like they made some hacky choices in the first shoots of the upcoming series, so it was promising to hear they decided to go back to what worked in the original and re-hired the same actors as Foggy and Karen. On the other hand, I loved the funny, sexy Matt from She-Hulk, and I wish there was a lot more of that. Also they already used big chunks of the Born Again story from the comics in season 3 of Daredevil and season 2 of Jessica Jones, so I'm not sure what they are bringing back now. There are so many good DD stories from the comics, especially the ones written by Mark Waid. Why not use any of those?

That thread you linked me to is so good ! And omg, I completely agree with what you said about the scene between Matt and Karen, where he agrees with her that the cane is just an act, to be SO ANNOYING. Such a missed opportunity for a devvy moment! And I agree that the other seasons of daredevil were well done, so hopefully they keep the same spirit of the show.

That line was really controversial and the producers later said they regretted it. Also Deborah Ann Woll who plays Karen has a blind husband IRL and she also said she knew at the time the line was ableist and wrong, and she wishes she had spoken out against it earlier.
I am cautiously excited for the new season. It's almost always a bad sign when there is major reshoots on a TV series but the articles I've seen seem to agree that it's an improvement so who knows. I hope we see more of Echo too because that series was great and the Deaf representation was really good. Shoshanna Stern, who created the series This Close, was one of the writers and producers.

I feel like the main part of a story where disability is really talked about is the beginning -- the setup. That's why in the first few eps of the Netflix show, we saw way more of the tech Matt uses and he had explicit conversations about blindness and stuff. If this is really a reboot, at least we can expect more of that!
That said, I don't much hope for it being a good show. I think Disney+ is going to sand away all the rough edges of the original show. I'm happy to see a lot of the original cast back.

Release date for Daredevil Born Again announced for March 4, along with some teasers for DD and a bunch of other Marvel shows. I have to say, it looks good! Love that devvy little head twitch.

I just went through a Daredevil binge and I’m OBSESSED! I watched DD S1-3 and The Defenders. SheHulk is next. I’m so excited they are bring it back and very curious on how/if it’s going to tie into the Netflix DD. I love Foggy and Karen but I can’t get enough of Charlie Cox as DD. I used to be so loyal to Ben Affleck DD, which is partly why I didn’t give this DD show a fair chance back when it first came out. That and I remember being very angry that nothing really happened with Matt and Karen. But man am I glad I gave it another try. devogirl - that head twitch…OMG!

Haha, so glad to hear I'm not the only one!
I was so obsessed with Ben Affleck DD back when it came out. I can still see so many scenes in my head. But even at the time I knew it wasn't a good movie and oof it does not hold up at all.
But Charlie Cox is just the best. I'm so happy he's getting to play DD again. Have you seen She-Hulk yet? I wish they had shown more of the romance but it's still so much fun.

Same here…that’s actually partially what started the whole thing recently. I watched the Ben Affleck DD with my 12 year old and he liked it but even I had to admit it’s hard to watch compared to all the phenomenal Marvel stuff out now. So I got curious about the Netflix DD and decided to give it another chance. Aaaand I was hooked, lol.
Just watched She-Hulk the other day and after a couple episodes I skipped forward to the last two because I really just wanted to see him. It was definitely a much different vibe from his usual dark and broody DD, but I really liked it! And yeah, wished there was way more of him and their fun relationship. I liked the light, teasing vibe.
I’ve been watching a lot of interviews and Comic-Con videos of Charlie Cox and the cast. He just seems like such a genuinely great guy who loves the character. The whole cast actually seems awesome.
