Here's a question i've often asked myself.
I wonder how many pretenders/wannabes actually go further than just using a chair? What percentage would get cathed up? etc
I look forward to your thoughts.

Hi Brendan, I'm Kim, I just posted my intro today. I'm a long time pretender / wannabe, in regards to going further, I have used a condom cath before, nothing like a internal, I'm sure . I would like to try it, but have not gone through with it yet .

I know a few who have tried cathing and the general consensus seems to be that it burns like hell and best done if you can't feel anything. Some default to diapers if they need to, or the condom type of cath, but apparently long-term those cause skin breakdown which is also quite unpleasant.
For some people with BIID, incontinence is part of it, and for some it isn't. There's different levels of BIID just like there's different levels of injury and function.

Hello Brendan, You probably don't know me, I'm an old member who rarely logs in nowadays. I was active a couple years ago. I am transabled, I have BIID. What you refer to as "wannabe". FWIW, I dislike the use of the word wannabe, I think it's derogatory and negative, a bit like the word "cripple" is derogatory and negative to people with physical disabilities... But that's beside the point I have in the past used Foley caths. Though rarely. As Claire says, it burns like the dickens, and I've yet to find the right anaesthetic lube. I know they exist. If I could, I would do it more often. As an alternative, I've used condom type caths for extended period of times. Again, as Claire points out, prolonged use of the critters causes skin break down. 48 to 72 hours is about the max the can be worn comfortably, though I've had one on for as long as ten days. I still use condom caths and legbags when I travel long distances. I do use nappies on a regular basis. I need to be paralysed. I'm gonna say it again, because this is a crucial point: I *need* to be paralysed. L1-L2. Bladder and bowel dysfunction is an integral part of that. I don't understand it, but I need it, part and parcel, as "unpleasant" as it gets. I also realise that genitalia dysfunction is most likely to occur as well. Obviously I'd rather not, but if it comes down to it, I'd rather be paralysed and unable to feel my dick than be able to enjoy my dangly bits but not be paralysed.

Very true and I couldn't agree with you more. However, you can hardly blame Brendan for using that term when most of us are still using the horrible word ourselves!

Thank you Creative-E. I stopped posting because I got the very strong sense that most people around here didn't want me around. I'm not a dev of guys in wheelchair, so I don't belong But I keep my eye on the place, and when people talk about a topic I can share about (BIID), I do

You gotta change those condom caths more often, dude. 48 to 72 hours is really asking for trouble. Your urine is burning the skin. And it's wet, so the skin is really soft and any adhesive left is doing a number on that skin. 12 hours, max, remove the condom and wash yourself. Dry completely and let the air get at it for a bit. Then you can put one back on.

Brendan, I'm curious. Why have you been pondering such a question?
