I am having and have had a lot of problems with this chair. I think part of the reason is all my travel, but still, it seems to be more susceptible to problems than my prior chairs, which also saw a lot of travel.

I have an Invacare TDX-6. The first one I received was a straight-up lemon. They eventually had to just swap it out. Since then, though, it's been great.
What problems are you having?

At first it was the brake release. That seemed a general problem, it was eventually redesigned and the issue went away.
The more troubling one is a motor issue. The motor on one side feels like it goes out of gear over a bump or incline and kills the chair. This has happened off and on to each motor, usually not both at once. The last two times, it just happened randomly at home as I went up or down a small ramp into my home office.

I've had a TDX-5 w/super-low tilt seating for over 2 years and 5,000 miles. The motor controller up and died about a year ago and had to be replaced. Other than that, no problems except the rubber tip of the joystick, which repeatedly pops off and refuses to be reglued despite about 10 friggin attempts to superglue it back.
My nightmare scenario is chair breakdown, downtown, late at night...w/o my cell phone.

Can you believe I don't know my own chair? I was researching your issue, reading reviews and what not, and swung by the Invacare site to see the difference between a TDX-5 and my TDX-6. I couldn't find a TDX-6. I just went and looked in the mirror... it says right on the side: TDX-5. Go figure.
In any case, I bet you need new motors. Once they start giving you trouble like that, you're best off replacing...

The motors have been replaced several times, so has the controller. That's really the guts of the chair, so I am wondering whether it's just too sensitive for airline travel. It's probably seen 40-50 trips over the years I've had it.

I've probably been on only 30 or so, but my main damage has always been to protruding parts... which I now remove (controller, foot plates, if I had a head rest) and bring aboard with me. The "lemon" died the first few times it flew.

Motors would die randomly, control box reset a few times, the joystick would shut off... It was within DAYS of getting it, though.
