Pretty low, but I've heard of many other similar cases!! It's amazing how vulnerable you are to people when you're not physically independent.

Ah yes, I had read this; Tony is right, this is hardly unique. Nursing homes are often guilty of similar violations. If the patient/person can't protest, it isn't a problem...

My mom was a CNA for years, too...mostly in the 80s and early 90s!! She has some absolutely despicable stories from nursing homes, and has told me to NEVER go to one in my old age. It's amazing what people are capable of when a person is not physically independent. You don't have to be 'disabled' for this to happen. Soon after I got hurt I was ripped off for money by a person I considered a friend. Here's a case a girl that happened to be born to the wrong mother!! www.tampabay.com/features/humaninterest/article750838.ece

Wow, Tony, what a frightful story! It says the mother's IQ is 77. That's near mental retardation. And the child protective services people left the child in her care on two occasions. Wow.
That reminds me a bit about when I gave birth to one of my kids and was still in the hospital. I started chatting with one of the other mothers who had also just given birth and to my amazement, I realized that she was mentally retarded. And she was keeping the baby. It's hard to make a judgment call on that, but this girl seemed to have an incredible support system with her. She was clean and well-dressed, and was constantly surrounded by her parents, siblings, aunts...a huge family who cared for her. The mother in this other story had no support system at all. It wasn't just her daughter who slipped through the cracks, the mother also did. How sad.
