Last Sunday, one of the shows on telly attempted to delve into the (for lack of a better word) phenomenon called BIID. This guy volunteered to come on TV to talk about his body dysmorphia, classic case of knowing his leg didn't belong to him since he was around 4 y.o. He ended up freezing his leg solid and doctors had no choice but to amputate, which him deliriously happy and whole. According to the guy, he WANTED to "out" himself on national television because he couldn't handle the stress of hiding it. Before the airing of the show, none of his friends knew.
Which led me to thinking, how long before some dev somewhere in the world, decides to out herself/himself in such a public arena? It would be a magnified version of what we devs feel about outing ourselves to families/friends/partners.
Do you think this could potentially be a good thing, a person outing devoteeism?

Is this the show you're talking about? au.tv.yahoo.com/sunday-night/video/-/watch/13173825/I have always felt like the more people know about BIID and devoteeism, the more likely they are to figure me out. Which scares the sh*t out of me. On the other hand, the more they know, the more it's likely to be accepted, and the less I would have to hide. For people who DO know, it's great to be able to point to shows like this and say "Look, I'm not crazy, I went to see those neurologists in San Diego and they told me that my results were very similar to David's." And on the other hand, a great many people will NEVER accept it anyway, regardless of any shows or scientific research, and so maybe it's best to just keep the whole thing in the dark. As you can see, I'm quite divided over this issue. I don't know.

Yes, there are so many things to consider before one even contemplates outing themselves. Thank you Claire and Noi for your insights. Claire, I didn't open the link but reading it sounds like it is the same interview on Sunday Night.
