Criminal Minds had an episode featuring a paraplegic guy. They showed him transfer from his bed to his chair and also from his chair to his truck. Too bad he was a psychotic killer. :-( Name of the episode was "Roadkill". www.cbs.com/primetime/criminal_minds/recaps/423/recaps.phpSeems a lot of TV/movies portray disabled guys as angry, bitter, psychotic, etc. Would love to see something more realistic, with less stereotyping.

No kidding. This is such an archaic idea, that a deformed or crippled body equals a twisted, depraved mind. Why can't we do better?

There's a couple that come to mind about how some disabled people overcome their disability, albeit both are CP and not SCI... the famous My Left Foot and the less renowned Gaby (sp?).
In that particular episode of SCI, he was bitter and a bit mad because he lost his wife (the love of his life) in the same accident that put him in a chair. As the story unfolds, it turns out that he caused the accident and therefore, her death. He runs his mini-truck off the cliff in the end coz he couldn't bear the truth. I think anybody in that situation would feel a bit insane as well and the inner serial killer wants to come out, whether they end up in a chair or not.

In the season finale of Season 4 of Criminal Minds (love the show) they also had a serial killer who was a Quad (they're not putting out a great image here) he used mind games to persuade his mentally challenged younger brother to kidnap and torture people for medical experiments. The only interesting part of the ep was the discussion about whether any court would convict a Quad of a crime he couldn't possibly commit.
