This is me sitting between my "real fireplace" and my "HD fireplace". The most hilarious thing about it is that the 400 Watt plasma panel gives off almost as much heat as the gas fireplace! Merry Christmas everyone! I don't think I've posted any real pics, save for my incredibly artistic Roomba spread, since perhaps the last time I went to Waikiki. Well, I've been meaning to for ages, and this seems like as good a time as any. it's so crazy how time flies... Here's me just taking a breather after a killer barbecue on "Granville Island". The coolest thing about this picture is that Dolly took it! I took this pic by English Bay Beach one evening this summer. It's a monument called "The Inukshuk". An Inukshuk is actually an ancient symbol of Inuit culture that was used as a sort of a landmark to help with navigation. It represents a human form with outstretched arms. In Canada it's a pretty well known symbol of hospitality, brotherhood, friendship, and all that great stuff. You'll be seeing it all over the place during the Olympics, as I believe it's one of their "official" symbols. I might just add that they're also super fun and easy to make when you're out hiking and camping etc. We used to make enormous ones, not to mention some pretty obscene variations! This is me and one of my buddies after going skateboard shopping. Kind of a funny thing to hear a quad say, I know. The thing is, as is the trend these days, they've of course started making retro skateboards, which I just love. This particular deck is actually more "new-school", as they say, you can tell by the shape. I bought it for the old-school graphics. Older boards had completely asymmetrical shapes and more radical angles and side cuts, and were generally made to ride in one direction. In fact, it was actually a trick with its own name just to roll backwards! Whereas, boards these days are totally symmetrical and designed to perform equally well in both directions. Just like me! (sorry, bad joke, I thought Tony would like it...) Wow, I've gone off on a huge tangent. I just get so excited reminiscing about skateboarding. It was a huge part of my life. Anyhow, to make a possibly annoyingly long story slightly shorter, I recently started collecting and mounting these decks on one of my walls. It's a whole lot of fun! I'm not sure if I've ever posted pictures of my garden here or not. Anyhow, I've got a raised box in a community garden down the street. I love to grow as much as I possibly can out of it and experiment with different combinations of different plants every year. It's in the most incredible location. It runs east to west, is completely sheltered from wind, and has unobstructed light from dawn to dusk. I'm not even joking, at any given time it's about 15 to 20% hotter there than anywhere else in the city. I've actually been able to successfully grow hot house peppers, which normally need a greenhouse due to the relatively short growing season in the Pacific Northwest. It's obviously fantastic for us reptiles! Speaking of time flying, I just realized it's three in the morning. I'd like to add some more pics another time. I'll leave you with this one. modeling is one of my girls who not only makes my garden look good just by standing there, but literally makes it look good by helping me take care of it all year. I should probably just quickly clarify that I use the term "my girls" to affectionately refer to my care attendants.

Cool pics. Thanks for sharing. It's awesome that you've found a way to enjoy skateboards again and the lilacs in your garden are beautiful. As is your corn and.... what is that other plant? Merry Christmas to you too.

Hey Sid, great pics!!! First, love that fake fireplace...how do I get one for my computer? 2nd, you live in a beautiful place, but TOO DAMN COLD for me. 3rd, it might get a lot warmer there if I had a gardener like that...damn, it's the only time I'd eat anything from a garden. haha (I hate veggis)
As for skateboards, I go wayyy back before skaters were pop culture, but I loved it, too. I had the red, skinny one with REALLY old trucks and wheels, but it was a blast. Funny how we still feel such affection for the things we used to do, but can't anymore. However, I think it would frustrate me to no end if I had a piano/guitar/basketball around on a daily basis.
Merry Christmas, man!!

Cool photos! I'm envious of the 'fireplace' in the background, lol Rigtigt glædelig jul og godt nytår allesammen Right gliding July Agh! God Night Ale Salmon? What the heck's that supposed to mean? Haha, your translater sucks! I think it would mean something like this: 'Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone ' In Norwegian we say 'God jul og Godt Nytt år!' So it's kind of similar

Thanks for the compliments on my garden Clover and Vulcan! That shot of my garden is early-season and things really hadn't filled out yet. I grew purple carrots along the front. Tony, you'll like this, they're called "Purple Haze". The big one on the right Is my biggest yet Giant Russian Sunflower. I grow a different variety every year, and this is my biggest yet. It was a good 12 feet tall! I'll post a couple of pictures. I also grew beans up my corn like the Mayans. Also asparagus peas, black cherry tomatoes, miniature green watermelons, two varieties of bush bean, and a few marigolds to help keep the bugs away.
I'm so glad you mentioned turning off the TV set Aphrodite, I also feel strongly that everybody needs to do their part. Those flat panels are huge consumers. The average LCD TV uses something like 50% more power than their predecessors, our trusty old CRTs. Now get this, plasmas use at least three times as much as the LCDs! On the conservation topic, there's something that's recently come to my attention regarding this whole "Green" movement and how mainstream it has become. We've got to be careful. Everywhere we look there's some mention of how "green" one product or another is. For obvious reasons this awareness is a good thing, but such a one-sided approach practically has people thinking that they can purchase and consume their way to saving the planet without making any changes in their lifestyles. it's okay to keep on buying, as long there's some mention of "greenness" on the label... I got busted myself a couple of weeks ago. I was feeling particularly proud of myself one afternoon having just replaced the last of my balcony lights with those low wattage LED ones, when I heard a guy on the radio ranting about people who get those LED lights, then suddenly think it's okay to leave them on 24/7. I promptly drove my electric chair to the store and bought a timer. And some granola bars.
It seems just like yesterday that we were sitting in the sunshine at the beach eating Vietnamese food, doesn't it Dolly? I'll tell you one thing that's for sure, when I look out my window at the moment, the word "beach" hardly comes to mind. Although I suspect it looks even less "beachy" out your window!
I have done some "less conventional" gardening over the years benquad. And might I add, with varying degrees of success! One thing I've learned is that you've got to keep your herb garden away from your regular plants or you'll get spider mites, which are a serious pain in the ass.
Oh sure, they know about Devs, I talk about them all the time! As for any of them actually being Devs, I'm pretty positive not at the moment. When I think back to before I discovered Paradevo and learned of this wonderful phenomenon, I believe there may have been one particularly lovely one who managed to get by undetected... That's why I joined Paradevo after all, to study the inner workings of these complex beings in order to maximize my chances of spotting the next one!

Hi Sidney from another Canadian. :-)
Love your garden. I tried growing some container vegetables and herbs (no, not that kind!) this summer. Had great success with tomatoes on my south-facing, shadeless balcony. Yum!
