For any of you devo's or wheelers living in the New York Tri-State area, this weekend Nov. 5th and 6th is a very huge wheelchair basketball tournament. Sunday is an all day event.
If you want to go and need details PM me. Husband of a lady I work with is competing in it. (No, I will not be hitting on him)

Arghhhh! Well, I'll just have to go by myself. I'll take my daughter and I am sure she'll love it. It will be interesting to scout out the devo women in the stands. I am sure they will all be there cheering loudly, never once daring to admit the real reason they are there.

AB didnt you say your daughter calls wheelchairs 'wheel cycles'? That's so cute..My little nephew pushes himself around laboriously in mine; he says it's his 'favorite wheelchair'.

hah, now everytime triassic responds to AB I'm going to wonder if it's really AB impersonating him as retribution triassic, you gotta sign up for a real account already....

Yeah, she calls them wheelcycles and she really loves them (then again most kids do). They are fun, fast and different than bicycles. My co-worker's huband, who will be in the b'ball playoffs this weekend has a sports chair with rims that light up neon green when he rolls. She thinks that is the coolest thing on earth.
Well, this much can be said for Dev parents. We raise our kids awareness and help them to embrace differences. If I caught my kid staring at someone, I wouldn't be one of those "Shhh, don't stare Katie" kind of Moms. I'd say "If you are curious, why don't you go over, introduce yourself politely and ask what you'd like to ask."

Well, it's Sunday afternoon and I have returned from the games. I was there just for 2 hours or so and my friend's husband's team won.
I have to say this. It wasn't a great devo experience. There must have been at least 50 paras in the gym and not one single one of them was really that attractive. A few of them were quite fat and several were quite bald. I personally hate back and shoulder hair on guys. Basketball jerseys seem to be a fine medium for showing off your gorilla side. Blah!

I think an amp friend of mine was playing in that tourney this weekend. I think he's pretty cute but I've never seen him in person. As far as I could tell from our cam sessions he seems pretty back hair free! Of course you'd have to be into amps to take notice really. Sorry the experience was such a bummer! I went to one W/C b-ball exhibition game over the summer and I had a WONDERFUL devo experience! ;D Better luck next time! LLP

Jeez AB, not even one out of 50? That's bad Not even any you coulda shaved down and fitted with a hairpiece?
Wheelchair sports just seem kind of *lame* to me anyway. The action is not quite fast or strenuous enough to really call them sports. I think the problem is the wheelchair. So I've mentally designed a vehicle I think might work: The seat would be very low; 6 inches or so off the ground. instead of wheels you'd have basketball size trackballs on 4 short outriggers. One per corner. You'd propel the thing by pushing with either one or 2 short hockey sticks or maybe jai alai cuestas-pushing against the floor. On a super smooth surface baby that thing would fly. You could change direction instantly, and bank and glide. You'd need a LOT of room and a slightly banked edge to the arena would be nice. It'd be lightning fast.

That sounds kind of like sled hockey or a mono ski or rollerblading sitting down. Invent it and make it Triassic. Make a game for it. Extreme sports are so hot right now, you'd probably have a new market.

As far as shaving down, fitting w/ hairpiece or whatever, it doesn't work that way for me Tri. It's either there or not there for me. Yesterday, nobody had "it". That's ok. If I walked into a crowd of AB guys, it would be the same thing. Usually it's just a certain something that captures me about a guy. It doesn't mean they have to look like a movie-star. I don't have a "type" per se. I just like a guy who looks like he takes care of himself and none of these guys did. Granted I was seeing them at their sweaty worst.
