I just had a very suspicious IM conversation with a male member here who contacted me....everything about it stinks of a faker. After years of chatting and at times getting burned, I think I'm pretty good at sensing the fakes. It's sad but makes me think twice about what I post here and now I am less apt to post my inner feelings as openly as I did initially. We all know the guys read what we are writing here so even this section of the group is not safe. Its really too bad. I know that for the moderators its impossible police all the members and keep the creeps/fakers/wannabes/whatever out, I'm not asking for that. What experiences have others had like this? Feel free to PM me or talk to me through yahoo instead on on here.

I'm way too naive I don't think I've met fakers here or elsewhere.
And I don't really get what fakers would get out of it. Are they looking for some kind of false sympathy?

Its hard to say what they are looking for....a lot of fakers on chat are wannabes, meaning they want to be disabled. They say its like being born the wrong sex but in their case in the wrong body. If you have chatted on yahoo I'm sure you have encountered fakers, just didn't know it. I am SUPER cautious and it takes a long time for me to trust someone is who they say they are.

I don't have a problem with people with BIID as long as they're up front about it. And hopefully they've got enough self knowledge that they can be. We used to have a poster around who was a dev who had BIID and she was a valuable contributor. I have a guy on my YIM who I think is likely a faker. I'm like Ath in my naivete... I'm pm'ing the rest of this.  |

If you suspect someone to be a faker and you don´t like that, then simply stop talking to him.

I only had one that screamed faker! to me and I just ran and deleted everything from IM. He can still read about me on here of course but whatever....nothing's really that private in cyberspace.
I have had suspicions about people who may have BIID that I have chatted with but honestly I just trust my instinct, just because I am truthful it doesn't mean others will be.
If I really talk to someone I wanna see some web cam action and I wanna see those legs! Believe me, if someone's really in a chair you'll know and it's rare (although it does happen!) that a wannabe will take it that far to pretend on camera and actually be convincing with it.
Most Devs could spot it a mile away but everyone gets caught out and yeah, I think it's really shit if someone falsely represents themself in that way. I mean, lie about your love history or your bitch mother or the fact you have 4 kids and backne but DON'T lie about being paralyzed cos that's just sad.
Ath, if you think you're naiive introduce yourself to YouTube and watch wheelers on that...you'll get the idea. Read past posts on here and you'll be able to spot the fakers soon enough.

Like I said, no one's immune and you can just take people at "face" value but a lot of us have been hurt by the real deal let alone a pretender or wannabe.
All I'm saying is just keep your wits about you.

Ath, if you think you're naiive introduce yourself to YouTube and watch wheelers on that...you'll get the idea. Read past posts on here and you'll be able to spot the fakers soon enough. So where are the posts with fakers? I have read A LOT of the threads and only saw one with an obvious faker, the guy who posted the ridiculous pic in a rented chair and claimed to have OI. I am curious about the other posts because I am both very amused by fakers and their poor lying ability. I also want to get to know as much about them as I can. |

Feel free to PM me or talk to me through yahoo instead on on here. i had a guy on herre message me saying he was a paraplegic i added him on yahoo messenegr coz he asked me to i asked him what level his responce wasd "c5" I said..erm c5 is quad hes like erm ok im sorry but im have spinabifda and if i said that you would have thought i was boring because loads of the guys on here have intresting storys about them and i was just born this way. i instantly blocked him i was literaly suprised that someone who already has a disability would fake being another disability to come across more intresting. but i have come across a few fakers who just pretend to be paras etc. but I have been into paras since i was born almost! a faker cant get anywere with me i suss them out imedietly i am always very wary but nice to everyone its good to protect yourself i get to know someone very well before they get to know alot about me or before i even show them my picture on this whole board i think only 2 people has seen my picture and know things about me and ive been talking to them for years! so we should just be aware of things but still have fun and just take people as they come. |

I think some fakers arnt doing any harm currently i only have one faker ( i think) on my yahoo lol and they dont realise i know there faking but for what ever reason it is satisfieing for them and obvously makes them happy and they arnt asking for anything of me so i gues in that way its no harm. but i just dont agree with the ones who are out for something of someone and evil about it. |

I think some people might get fakers and pretenders confused sometimes , I have pretend before in real life with a real quad and we just wheeled around . i would never "pretend" online or anything. it was just me and the quad noeone else was aroung there was nothing dishonest about it we both new i was pretending obvously lol i just found the whole thing about chairs and disability extreemly sexy , exiting intresting. i find it disgusting that people would be dishonest and fake online to people that dont know there faking and try to get sympathy of people. people do it for different reasons and i think some do it harmfuly and some are evil about it , but i know usualy when i come across a faker if they are just generaly chating with me i wont out them il just carry on as if i didnt know they wernt realy disabled. as there causing no harm to me .
